KShs1,000.00 KShs650.00
Shadows of Love Sylvia Mwende dreams of love, but instead, her heart is scarred by betrayal and heartbreak. In her desperate search for love, she confronts a maze of internal conflicts in an uncaring world. In her naivety, she makes wrong choices, leading her deeper into emotional turmoil. Torn between the shadows of past pain and the hope for a better future, Mwende's journey is punctuated with missteps that complicate her already fragile life. In Shadows of Love, the author weaves a captivating love story that confronts contradictions between the heart's yearnings and the ways of the human mind. Skillfully and with surgical precision, Egara Kabaji peels layers of the ramifications of love while leading the reader to deep embers of reflection on love. Vividly, he depicts the troubled life of Sylvia Mwende, who swings between polarities of joy and pain and unexpectedly finds real love in an unlikely place. As she navigates the complexities of her heart, she discovers that while good men are indeed rare, they do exist. Yet, she also learns a harsh truth: some women can be unwittingly destructive. Tormented by family expectations, Sylvia must confront her past and embrace the possibility of a brighter future. As Sylvia Mwende grapples with the consequences of her decisions, the line between love and pain blurs, leaving her at a crossroads. Will Mwende break free from the chains of heartache, or will the shadows consume her? The Heroine Sex Workers of Mau Mau By...

KShs1,000.00 KShs950.00
The Heroine Sex Workers of Mau Mau exposes a hidden history of Kenya’s liberation struggle by documenting the lives of women erased from official narratives—sex workers who became critical agents of resistance. Operating under colonial surveillance and extreme social stigma, these women gathered intelligence, smuggled weapons and supplies, passed messages, funded fighters, and provided shelter, using their marginalised positions as strategic cover. Drawing on oral histories and archival fragments, the book challenges nationalist and patriarchal histories that confine women’s roles to passive support. It argues that sex work, within the Mau Mau context, functioned as survival, resistance, and revolutionary strategy. These women endured violence, exploitation, and betrayal, yet remained central to the fight for freedom. This book is a historical reckoning and a feminist intervention, restoring recognition to women who fought without acknowledgment. It insists that Kenya’s independence story remains incomplete until their courage, sacrifice, and agency are fully named and honored.

The Mountain Is You: Transforming Sel...

KShs2,990.00 KShs2,000.00
This is a book about self-sabotage. Why we do it, when we do it, and how to stop doing it—for good. Coexisting but conflicting needs create self-sabotaging behaviors. This is why we resist efforts to change, often until they feel completely futile. But by extracting crucial insight from our most damaging habits, building emotional intelligence by better understanding our brains and bodies, releasing past experiences at a cellular level, and learning to act as our highest potential future selves, we can step out of our own way and into our potential. For centuries, the mountain has been used as a metaphor for the big challenges we face, especially ones that seem impossible to overcome. To scale our mountains, we actually have to do the deep internal work of excavating trauma, building resilience, and adjusting how we show up for the climb. In the end, it is not the mountain we master, but ourselves.

Meditations by Marcus Aurelius

Written in Greek, without any intention of publication, by the only Roman emperor who was also a philosopher, the Meditations of Marcus Aurelius (AD 121-180) offer a remarkable series of challenging spiritual reflections and exercises developed as the emperor struggled to understand himself and make sense of the universe. Ranging from doubt and despair to conviction and exaltation, they cover such diverse topics as the nature of moral virtue, human rationality, divine providence, and Marcus' own emotions. But while the Meditations were composed to provide personal consolation and encouragement, in developing his beliefs Marcus Aurelius also created one of the greatest of all works of philosophy: a timeless collection of extended meditations and short aphorisms that has been consulted and admired by statesmen, thinkers and readers through the centuries.

Stuff I’d Tell My Sister: On Si...

What if everything women were taught about their bodies was incomplete, or dangerously wrong? In Stuff I’d Tell My Sister, Dr. Miriam Mutebi, the first female breast surgeon in Kenya, breaks the silence surrounding breast cancer, women’s bodies, and the systems that too often fail them. With extraordinary clarity and compassion, she takes readers from her childhood in Nairobi to the operating rooms where she confronts not only cancer, but silence, shame, and systems that fail women. She introduces us to young mothers diagnosed while breastfeeding, brides whose futures fracture overnight, grandmothers who have never been taught to touch their own bodies, and surgeons who must fight to be seen in spaces never designed for them. This book is a radical act of sisterhood. Dr. Mutebi speaks directly to women, as a doctor, as an African woman, and as a sister who refuses to let fear or myth decide who lives and who dies. She dismantles dangerous misconceptions about breast cancer, challenges cultural taboos surrounding women’s bodies, and equips readers with practical knowledge about breast health, self-examination, and self-advocacy. Part memoir, part medical guide, and part call to action, this book is a life-saving conversation African women have been denied for far too long. Written with surgical precision and deep moral courage, this book will change how you understand cancer, how you understand women’s bodies, and how you choose to listen to your own.

Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe

KShs1,000.00 KShs890.00
THINGS FALL APART tells two overlapping, intertwining stories, both of which center around Okonkwo, a "strong man” of an Ibo village in Nigeria. The first of these stories traces Okonkwo's fall from grace with the tribal world in which he lives, and in its classical purity of line and economical beauty it provides us with a powerful fable about the immemorial conflict between the individual and society. The second story, which is as modern as the first is ancient, and which elevates the book to a tragic plane, concerns the clash of cultures and the destruction of Okonkwo's world through the arrival of aggressive, proselytizing European missionaries. These twin dramas are perfectly harmonized, and they are modulated by an awareness capable of encompassing at once the life of nature, human history, and the mysterious compulsions of the soul. THINGS FALL APART is the most illuminating and permanent monument we have to the modern African experience as seen from within. "
