Unbowed by Wangari Maathai

KShs2,500.00 KShs2,000.00
Born in a rural Kenyan village in 1940, Wangari Maathai was already an iconoclast as a child, determined to get an education even though most African girls then were uneducated. In her remarkable and inspiring autobiography, she tells of her studies with Catholic missionaries, earning bachelors and master's degrees in the United States, and becoming the first woman both to earn a PhD and to head a university department in Kenya. She tells of her numerous run-ins with the brutal government of Daniel arap Moi and of the political and personal reasons that compelled her, in 1977, to establish the Green Belt Movement, which spread from Kenya across Africa, and which helps restore indigenous forests while assisting rural women by paying them to plant trees in their villages. Maathai's extraordinary courage and determination helped transform Kenya's government into the democracy in which she now serves as Deputy Minister for the Environment and Natural Resources and as a Member of Parliament. Eventually her achievement was internationally recognized in the Nobel Peace Prize, awarded in recognition of her 'contribution to sustainable development, human rights, and peace'. In Unbowed, we are in the presence of a hugely charismatic yet humble woman whose remarkable story carries with it an inspiring message of hope. Hers is an extraordinary story, spanning different worlds and changing times, and revealing what the courage, determination, tenacity and humour of one good woman can achieve; how as small a thing as planting a seedling and watering it can made all the difference in the world.

The Price of Freedom Achieng Oneko: T...

KShs3,000.00 KShs2,500.00
Ramogi Achieng’ Oneko’s public life is a story of resilience and courage, as well as sacrifice and betrayal, in the pursuit of the State that Kenyans have yearned for. Oneko was among the most consequential figures in the struggle for Kenya’s independence in the 1950s and in the early 1960s, collectively known as the Kapenguria Six, after the sham trial they endured in Kapenguria, northwestern Kenya, following their arrest on 20 October 1952. Also arrested alongside Oneko by the British colonial authorities in the Kenya Colony were Jomo Kenyatta, Paul Ngei, Bildad Kaggia, Kung’u Karumba, and Fred Kubai. This book is a narrative of Oneko’s heroic life and times, largely as told by himself, and also carefully reconstructed from notes he left behind at the time of his death in 2007. It also draws from other historical sources and authorities, including primary source eye-witness accounts, to give a powerful eye–opener to the true story of the elusive quest for a Kenyan nation. The narrative explores key debates surrounding land, nationalism, governance, and post-independence state formation. Through Oneko’s reflections, you get to gain insight into the aspirations and tensions that accompanied the transition from colonial rule to self-government. This volume is an invaluable addition to the repository of the Kenyan narrative, for anyone interested in the country’s true story.

No Tears for the Cherished: A Memoir

KShs2,000.00 KShs1,700.00
No Tears for the Cherished is the heart-wrenching story of Dr. Nyaboke Nduati’s small town childhood in Eastern Africa. Surrounded, and silenced, by devastating domestic abuse, family dysfunction and illness, witchcraft, patriarchal oppression, physical and sexual abuse, female circumcision, and the early deaths of both of her parents, she protected herself by going into survival mode; a state of numbness that was her shield against the realities of her troubled life. Through a deeply and vividly honest letter to her dead mother, Dr. Nyaboke Nduati explores the events of her life before and after becoming an AIDS orphan. Her experiences of a childhood in distress, and a teenagehood of trying to put the pieces of her life back together, are all too relatable. She writes boldly, yet delicately, about the realities of an orphaned childhood, when no one comes to the rescue.

KShs1,500.00 KShs1,200.00
Fragments in a Kaleidoscope is a tender, unflinching collection of stories that explores the messy, beautiful complexity of human experience. In these sharp, lyrical vignettes, Kieya and Gichuhi bring to life a chorus of voices; women finding agency in silence, men finding theirs in their voice, children caught in the undertow of adult failings, and lovers grappling with the weight of memory and loss. Each story is a fragment, but together they form a vivid mosaic of Kenyan life, past and present, mundane and extraordinary. With wit, empathy, and a clear-eyed gaze, Kieya offers us a mirror and sometimes a wound. These are stories that refuse easy answers, choosing instead to dwell in nuance, contradiction, and the ever-shifting light of truth

THE BETRAYAL BLUEPRINT by Jacob Aliet

KShs800.00 KShs650.00
Betrayal is not chaos—it’s calculus. In a world where loyalty is a myth and infidelity the new normal, The Betrayal Blueprint shatters the comforting illusions of modern love. Drawing on evolutionary psychology, behavioral science, and red pill philosophy, Jacob Aliet exposes the hidden architecture of cheating. Through groundbreaking models like the Infidelity Probability Matrix (IPM) and Cheater’s Signature Model (CSM), he reveals how attraction, opportunity, and psychology converge to produce predictable patterns of betrayal. This is not a book about bitterness — it’s a manual for awareness. It teaches men to decode emotional withdrawal, detect behavioral red flags, and understand the sociosexual spectrum that separates the loyal from the restless. For men seeking clarity, women seeking truth, and thinkers daring enough to look beneath romance into raw biology, The Betrayal Blueprint is both mirror and map — showing why infidelity isn’t random, but written in our psychology. Read slowly. Reflect deeply. Learn before it burns.

CHIKE KOD KWECHE MAG LUO BY JENNIFER ...

BOOK TITLE: CHIKE KOD KWECHE MAG LUO (LUO RULES AND DOGMAS) The African people are blessed with diverse traditional cultures distinct from each other. The Luo people had their cultural values and beliefs defining their moral standards of existing cordially with one another. These are now fading away with modern behaviors creeping in and overtaking the cultural values with devastating effects on the millennial generation. To safeguard some of these traditional values before they reach the route of extinction, I thought I would start documenting some of these valuable Luo beliefs and traditions. This book, written in Luo language, whose title can be best translated as ‘Luo Rules and Dogmas’ describes some of the ways Luo ancestors or forefathers managed to give their homesteads good and healthy living environment and their children disciplined/principled as they followed the traditional practices to the latter. The 10-chapter book has Chapter 1 of the pre-amble and encompasses in Ch.2 the traditional practices that were observed during the construction of a homestead. In Ch.3 are the practices that ensured that the home was well protected; Ch.4 the ceremonies that would be performed to bring blessings to the new homestead; and Ch. 5 ensuring the homestead was food secure. It goes on to describe in Ch.6 the different calamities that would befall the community and their remedy or how to manage such, like morbidity, mortality, and war. Ch.7 details the customary beliefs that every member of a homestead must adhere to, to prevent any evil spell in the family. Ch.8 describes the different ancestral spirits and their healing powers as well as superpowers. Ch.9 gives a brief on how Luo ancestors ensured the prosperity of the homestead was protected. Finally, Ch.10 gives the proverbs and their meanings that our forefathers used when warning wayward people to toe the line if they wanted to maintain peace in the homestead. Proverbs were words of wisdom and a means that the ancestors used to teach young people without having to narrate long sentences. Knowledge is power and the power is in sharing and Knowledge shared is knowledge squared. I have shared what I gathered from those who can still remember the Luo traditions so I may also get feedback from readers and know more. Only the knowledgeable seek to know more. Have a great reading
