KShs700.00
Spanning generations, The Lion’s Path traces Kenya’s journey through the eyes of ordinary people whose lives mirror the nation’s struggles and triumphs. From Kamau, a hunter who dreams of a wounded lion, to Naliaka, a girl bound to colonial farms; from Joseph Otieno, a teacher at independence, to Akinyi, a mother enduring economic hardship; from Brian Mwangi, a slum-born dreamer of the digital revolution, to Leila Hassan, a climate activist fighting for tomorrow — each character carries the roar of resilience within. Blending history and allegory, this sweeping work of historical fiction captures the wounds, hopes, and unbreakable spirit of a nation walking its path through past, present, and future.

In THE FIGHT FOR ORDER, richly adorned with piercing honesty, Justin Bedan Muturi uses his searing gift of storytelling to deliver an unflinching exposé about Kenya's kleptocratic circus, the petty political theatre and the plundering ineptitude in government that keeps holding the country back. With over four decades in public service, as the only Kenyan to serve in the Judiciary, in opposition politics, and as the Speaker of the National Assembly, the Attorney General of Kenya, and Cabinet Secretary, Muturi gives a raw blistering insider portrait exposing the inner workings of a state captured by obsessive grasping greed, driven by visionless small-minded hustle, and crippled by crude, contemptuous impunity. He was part of the system until it chewed him up, spat him out, and left him with nothing but the piercing wisdom of a truthful pen. Now he rips back the curtain with a sharp-edged confession, a reckoning with power and a masterclass in why values, institutions, and the rule of law still matter in a country where politics kills them first. ".Personal, raw, and exhilarating book dripping with convivial banter and bis trademark honesty.

From the blue sky of Nairobi to the lecture halls of Cardiff, from the counter of a small pharmacy to the wide horizons of travel and family - Vibha’s journey was extraordinary. She was a daughter, a sister, a wife, a mother, and above all, a quiet force of resilience and grace. In this moving biography, her husband Dinesh opens the door to their world: the letters of longing, the laughter of student days, the devotion of building a life together, and the courage with which Vibha faced her final chapter. Through his words, she lives again - brilliant in spirit, boundless in compassion, impossible to forget. Part love story, part legacy, this book is a testament to how one woman’s light can continue to guide others long after she is gone.

Minding My Father’s Country by ...

Minding My Father’s Country follows Dr Dora Siliya’s intricate life managing public affairs in Zambia and juggling her personal and family responsibilities. Her political journey spanned two decades, and included four parliamentary election victories, two losses, and saw her serve under five presidents. She began her career in diplomatic service, after which she was appointed a government minister in six ministries. In 2009, Dr Siliya was catapulted into the limelight (and much controversy) when she was brought before a tribunal concerning the ‘sale’ of the national telecoms. Later, in 2013, she gained further national attention when she was prevented from contesting her parliamentary seat. Dr Siliya’s public life involved house searches, police detention, and court appearances. She was also the target of many political attacks and much social media attention. In Minding My Father’s Country, Dr Siliya highlights her beginnings through her family and education. Her wide public exposure is also woven through intimate stories about her encounters in various capacities both locally and internationally. This is a must-read for anyone who wishes to have crystal insight into Zambian politics and how business interests have come to be at the centre. Dr Siliya also provides readers with a clear account of her career roles and her viewpoints, making it an easy read for those who may be contemplating public life.

Freedom after Speech by Gado

Kenya has over the years made tremendous gains in the area of freedom of expression and media. In this respect, it is way ahead of its regional neighbours and many other African countries with much lower tolerance for media freedom. One can only compare it to South Africa in that respect. In my view, it is important that these gains are protected because the risk that they will be rolled back remains all too real. Since 2013, there has been a concerted campaign to limit free speech as well as the freedom of the media. During and after their election campaigns, the party leaders made no secret of their dislike of the media with President Uhuru Kenyatta at one point declaring that newspapers are only useful for wrapping meat. “I do not read them,” he declared. We have witnessed the use of intimidation, harassment and outright bribery targeting individual journalists. The craft of editorial cartooning is tough and frustrating at times, especially in this part of the world. Indeed, I subscribe to the dictum by Evelyn Beatrice Hall often misattributed to Voltaire: “I disagree with what you have to say but I’ll defend to the death your right to say it”

After six years abroad, Wanjikũ and Kabogo return to a homeland that is bubbling with optimism as it reinvents itself as an independent nation, free of colonial Britain. But leaving America has meant bidding farewell to close friends. Kabogo’s abrupt disclosure of their plans to return home was not well received by Bill and Karen, who thought the Mũchokis would remain in Hartford and were looking forward to fun times together. But all this seems to be behind them by the time the families say goodbye at the airport. For Wanjikũ, the festering conflict in her marriage is bound to play out, whether in Connecticut or Nairobi, but she will miss having Karen as a confidante. Life in Nairobi proves harder than expected. Kabogo’s government job turns out to be a sham. He finds a better opportunity and starts building his career but has little time for his wife and young daughter. Before long, he and his family are living separate lives under one roof. As they navigate the political turbulence of the 1970s and ‘80s, and the encircling tentacles of corruption in the lives of ordinary citizens, there is no shortage of reasons for disillusionment. But Wanjikũ finds solace in exciting new friendships, and in creating stylish kitenge outfits which are fast becoming the talk of the town.
