BETRAYED BY THE SYSTEM

KShs1,999.00 KShs999.00
Betrayed by the System is a fearless exposé and emotional reckoning with a country's slow-burning betrayal of its most essential workers—and the lives lost because of it. With searing honesty and investigative clarity, Tobias Otieno Ogola paints an unflinching portrait of Kenya's broken health sector, where systemic neglect, political greed, and institutional failure have turned hospitals into death traps, caregivers into beggars, and patients into statistics. Drawing from official audit reports, frontline testimonies, whistleblower revelations, investigative journalism, and harrowing real-life case studies, this book takes readers through ten damning chapters. Each chapter unearths the rot that festers behind the corridors of power: from "ghost clinics" and counterfeit medicine rings to misappropriated international aid and the silencing of striking medics. The crisis is not just about bad governance—it is about a deliberate abandonment of duty, where the government watches its health workers crumble under stress, remains silent as interns go unpaid, and lets citizens die waiting for treatment. Ogola does more than report—he indicts. He demands answers for the intern paid 47,000.00 KES after years of training. He tells the story of patients turned away from public hospitals that lack drugs, electricity, or staff. He exposes how political elites feast in comfort while hospitals decay and ambulances stall from lack of fuel. He uncovers how the Kenyan government has enough funds—but not the will—to hire, pay, or protect healthcare professionals. This is a book for every Kenyan who has watched a loved one die waiting for care. For every health worker who sacrificed, only to be discarded. For every citizen who has asked: "Where is our dignity? Where is our justice?" Betrayed by the System is both a call to action and a memorial to those failed by the very people meant to protect them. It will shake your conscience, stir your anger, and ignite your resolve

The Call for a Christian Teacher

KShs450.00
  1. Is discipleship amongst student a ministry? How does one make their teaching count for eternity? Why is it necessary to engage in students’ ministry? If these are the questions you have in your mind, then this is the book for you. This book is aimed at awakening the greatest call for every Christian teacher-a call to make disciples for Jesus Christ. It is not about discipleship as a program, no but being intentional in walking with the children and teenagers that God has placed on our hands. It is about discipleship as demonstrated by Jesus Christ in the gospels; how he walked with them for 3 years of his life. Jesus began by calling them from their lucrative business of fishing, he persuaded them that being fishers of men was way better than fishers of fish; he walked with them; he taught them how to live as Christians especially on his sermon on the mount; he prayed with them and taught them how to pray; he rebuked and corrected them, in love when it was necessary; he acted as an excellent model of godliness , for instance washing their feet as an act of servant leadership, and his demonstration of love as he interacted with the sinners. He basically lived a life that inspired his disciples. These are the lessons that have been incorporated in this book. It is about how discipleship with young people can lead to a transformation of the society at large. Read it, but most importantly, Go ye…

Experiences of Women Students with Di...

KShs2,500.00 KShs2,000.00
This work is a systematic analysis of the subject of disability and society as encountered in institutions of higher learning in Kenya. Experiences of women students with disabilities in Kenyan universities demonstrates that marginalization of people with disabilities is an insidious reality in virtually all societies. Across Africa, dialogue on discrimination against individuals with disability has for a long time been silenced resulting into minimal participation and representation of this population in the political, social, cultural, and economic and development initiatives in the continent. Only a few texts have examined the question of disability and the status of people with disabilities in Africa and more so, with reference to gender and higher education. Filing this gap, this book discusses the experiences of women students with disabilities in university education in Kenya. It analyzes the challenges these women face and how they deal with those challenges. There is evidence of ableim in Kenyan higher education institutions and in the society as a whole. Individuals, government and societal institutions should work together to address ableism and promote an inclusive society. What others say Disability is not inability. This cutting edge text reveals that although women students with disabilities in Kenyan universities face numerous challenges, they are determined to succeed. The desire to lead a better life is the glue that gives these women the determination to challenge their subjugated positions in society. This book provides important recommendations for policy, practice and research which Kenya and other African nations can learn from to change things for the better. It is an important and timely read to be enjoyed by everyone. - Chris Atuti, Toronto, Canada. This book brings us in touch with the lives of women, and their struggles, so as to inspire the collective need to address disability in more thought-provoking ways. Skillfully, Bathseba depicts the complexity of living with disability through her ethnographic account of twenty women students in Kenyan universities. Through this unique research and analysis, the reader comes to know that every experience of disability needs to be understood as a fully social, political, and historical, not to mention valid, way of being-in-the-world. Bathseba has produced a book that is a must read for anyone interested in exploring education as it is interwoven with the meanings of race, gender, class and disability in and through the Kenyan context - Dr. Tanya Titchkosky Associate Professor, Associate Chair, and Graduate Coordinator, Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, University of Toronto. This book is an outstanding sociological exploration of gender, disability and higher education in the African context. The women's stories come alive in this brilliant and sensitive interpretation of challenges and accomplishments of women students with disabilities in Kenyan universities. By giving voice to those who are rarely heard, Bathseba contributes to a comprehensive understanding of the student experience. - . Sandra Acker, Professor Emeritus, Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, University of Toronto.
