From Protest To Power by Alex Miringu

KShs1,200.00 KShs1,000.00
On June 25th, 2024, the streets of Kenya became classrooms, pulpits, and battlegrounds for a generation that refused to be silent. What began as protest became an awakening—of conscience, courage, and collective power. From Protest to Power captures that defining moment and asks the most important question of our time: What comes after the streets go quiet? Written in honour of the young lives lost during and after the June 25th protests, this book is both a tribute and a challenge. It confronts broken promises, political betrayal, and youth marginalization, while offering a clear path forward moving from anger to action, from resistance to responsibility, and from protest to leadership. With clarity, conviction, and hope, Alex Miringu calls on young people to step beyond outrage and into nation-building through values-driven leadership, civic engagement, and faith-rooted courage. This is not a book about politics alone. It is a call to duty. A blueprint for generational change. A reminder that true power is not only found in the streets but in shaping the future.

The cost of Betrayal by Abdikarim Ibr...

KShs1,200.00
Here’s a brief synopsis of The Cost of Betrayal: Leadership, Integrity and the Future of Communities: The book examines how betrayal—through dishonesty, self-interest, and broken promises—undermines leadership and weakens communities. It argues that even well-intentioned leadership systems can gradually decay when accountability is lost and ambition takes priority over integrity. Rather than blaming individuals alone, the author explores deeper cultural issues such as silence, fear, and the acceptance of unethical behavior, which allow betrayal to become normalized. These patterns erode trust, discourage public participation, and create cycles of mistrust that persist over time. Importantly, the book is not just critical—it offers a solution. It calls for a return to ethical leadership grounded in honesty, accountability, and service, urging both leaders and citizens to take shared responsibility in rebuilding trust and strengthening communities.

Long before society was ready for her kind of leadership, Cathy Irungu stepped into rooms where decisions were made, where pain, betrayal, and negotiations danced hand in hand, and where truth often fell silent. Unwritten Political Rules is an unflinching account of a young woman's bold entry into the unforgiving world of Kenyan politics. In this deeply personal yet universally relevant narrative, Cathy reveals the raw costs of public service: the emotional scars, the psychological strain, and the cultural battles that women and young leaders must navigate. Cathy speaks candidly about gender-based violence, not just as physical harm, but as the sum of silencing, shame, and social exclusion. She interrogates voter behavior, unpacks the dysfunction of political parties, and questions the true independence of electoral institutions. This is more than a story; it is a rallying cry to every woman, every young person, and every citizen disillusioned by politics. Real change starts when good people stop waiting and start leading

State and Public Policy: A Comparativ...

Why did students start paying tuition fees at African universities? How did public universities become increasingly expensive for the large numbers of young people they are supposed to be educating? This book helps us to understand the reasons for this, and reminds us that change is always the result of political compromise. The book looks at the higher education reforms carried out since the 1980s in four East African countries with unique historical and political trajectories: Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania and Burundi. Through a rigorous, well-documented analysis, the author provides valuable insights into the fundamental political issues facing development actors in the South: the transformation of state intervention, the training of national elites, and the marketing of the education sector, particularly through the highly political issue of school fees.

One SIM – Card Syndrome By Renj...

In a world obsessed with control, applause, and being the centre of every story, this powerful classic flips the script. It’s not another leadership handbook—it’s a mirror held up to the soul of ambition. With a masterful blend of boardroom intelligence, human vulnerability, and spiritual depth, it challenges leaders, entrepreneurs, and ministers to stop micromanaging destiny and start building systems that breathe beyond them. Witty, hard-hitting, and unapologetically authentic, it explores the loneliness of leadership, the addiction to relevance, and the quiet art of letting go. It teaches that influence without structure is noise, and authority without trust is a ticking time bomb. Written with poetic brilliance and the piercing honesty of lived experience, this book is a clarion call to every visionary who’s ever carried too much alone. As Renja Erambo says, “You don’t prove strength by holding on—you prove leadership by letting go.” This isn’t just a read. It’s a reckoning.

The struggle for Kenya's new constitution has been long and winded. There are lessons of history captured here in the conversations. And then, the Kenyan people got a constitution in 2010 and for it to be implemented well, every person, every state and non state actor has to do something. This book looks at what the Constitution requires these various categories to do and looks at these proposed actions as conversations in a political education perspective,

Transforming The Law Enforcers: Insti...

Dr. Margaret Awino Ong’ale "Transforming the Law Enforcers" is more than just a book—it's a reflection of my journey as an officer, a researcher, and a reform advocate. Having served within the Directorate of Criminal Investigations for years, I witnessed firsthand how reforms, especially in training, leadership, and technology transformed the way we fight crime. My PhD research focused on these institutional reforms, and I felt it was important to share the findings with a wider audience beyond academia. This book is my contribution to a better, more professional DCI. It’s a call to action, especially for young officers and policymakers, to embrace integrity, innovation, and service to the people. As a woman in law enforcement, I also wanted to show that women can lead—on the ground, in policy, and through knowledge. I hope this book educates, inspires, and influences positive change in how we think about policing in Kenya.

DARKNESS AT NOONDAY: How Leadership U...

KShs2,500.00
Darkness at Noonday is about the many factors played by leadership that directly/indirectly retards development in Africa. The only normal place Africa should be is prosperity based on the many resources that the continent enjoys. That isn't the case because leadership allowed several things into the centrality of their governance that ultimately lead to Africa losing out on her own opportunities. First the book highlights the servile nature of the African leaders that makes them bend so low to foreigners that they are easily manipulated into serving the interests of foreign countries than those of their own countries. In this sense they facilitate foreign meddling and theft of resources by their corporations. In return, these foreign powers reward African leaders with protection in power even when they are unwanted. The foreign powers also pay the leaders heavy bribes and allow them to loot while keeping the loot in their foreign banks. This becomes a dangerous cycle of African political corruption that is backed by the international financial institutions. Through this corruption, poverty is spread amongst African communities since funds for priority programs are looted to fund luxury expenses of their elites. With this form of corruption, the book highlights how leaders then feel unsafe to leave power and hence seek every means to hang on and to manage their subjects in perpetuity. They misuse their military to crush as well as entrenching tribalism and nepotism, to reward stooges and marginalize anyone they feel could challenge them. This practice is highlighted in the book how it has lead to dangerous political competition in Africa occasionally leading to bloodshed in civil wars and election related violence. To salvage their land, the book calls on all Africans to come together, fight corruption through tech, push their leaders into accountability and observation of the laws of the land. The book puts emphasis on how Africans must stand up to foreign power meddling especially from Europe and the US because this interference bears collateral damage to all other African interests, economic, social and political. Most importantly the book calls on Africans to retake back the control of their resources because no country in the world ever made it without them first holding their own resources for their own use. Africa is no exception and the continent will never realize development in the current model where foreigners are the real owners of African resources and Africans are only but the exploited labourers extracting the same resources for foreign ventures.
