Roots Beneath Gikuyu community

KShs2,500.00 KShs2,200.00
Roots Beneath Gĩkũyũ Community was written to uncover, preserve, and celebrate the foundational cultural, linguistic, and spiritual elements that define the Gĩkũyũ people. At its core, the work seeks to reconnect modern readers—especially younger generations—with the deep ancestral wisdom and symbolic systems that have shaped Gĩkũyũ identity for centuries. The author’s primary motivation is to explore how oral narratives, naming customs, rituals, and social structures serve as repositories of cultural knowledge. In a rapidly modernizing Kenya, where Western influence and urbanization threaten to erode indigenous traditions, this book acts as a cultural anchor. It documents the symbolic meanings behind names, the spiritual significance of Mount Kenya, and the intricate clan systems that governed marriage, kinship, and social order. By tracing the origins of the Gĩkũyũ through myth, migration, and oral history, the book challenges the notion that African traditions are simplistic or outdated. Children who come into contact with justice systems rarely do so in isolation from their lived realities. My professional journey across juvenile correctional facilities, counselling spaces, and community settings in Kenya and internationally has consistently affirmed one truth: children’s behaviour is often a reflection of unresolved adult, family, and systemic distress. This guidebook is born out of empirical research conducted among urban Kenyan families in informal settlements of Mombasa County, where family triangulation emerged as a critical yet often overlooked contributor to child delinquency. The findings challenged the dominant punitive and child-blaming approaches and instead called for family-centred, trauma- informed, and rights-based responses. This guide is therefore written for the child justice actor who must make decisions under pressure, in limited-resource environments, yet with profound consequences for a child’s life trajectory. It is intended to be practical, ethical, and humanistic—placing the child at the centre, while recognising the family and community systems that shape behaviour. If this guide enables one practitioner to pause, listen, assess differently, and intervene more humanely, then its purpose will have been fulfilled.

Modern Law Of Criminal Procedure In K...

KShs1,800.00
The law on criminal procedure in Kenya has tremendously changed after the Constitution of Kenya of 2010. New institutions with an impact on the criminal process such as the National Police Service, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, and the Supreme Court were created. Certain rights that were hitherto unavailable were entrenched in the constitution, including the right to bail irrespective of the offence and the right to legal representation. The superior courts have had a busy time in the interpretation of the current law, and groundbreaking jurisprudence has emerged. There is no doubt that the study of criminal procedure has significantly changed. This book covers all important aspects of criminal procedure, taking into consideration the changes brought about by the Constitution of 2010. It fills a void created by the lack of updated texts on the law of criminal procedure. It utilizes simple, easy-to-understand language and makes reference to both local and international case law. This book will prove to be an invaluable companion to students of criminal procedure, legal practitioners, researchers, and the general public.
