The Broken Chains By Gerald Musyoki Paul

KShs650.00 KShs550.00
A courageous girl. A silenced village. A tradition on trial. In the hills of Enkashe, Kenya, the drums beat loudest before a girl is cut. For generations, this has been the way—celebrated as culture, enforced as honor. But thirteen-year-old Nia hears something different in those drums: not a rhythm of pride, but a warning. As her community prepares her for the traditional rite of passage, Nia faces a choice—conform or flee. Driven by fear, love, and an inner flame she doesn’t yet understand, Nia runs. Her escape sets off a powerful chain of events, from village huts to city rescue centers, from whispered secrets to bold defiance. She finds unlikely allies: Salome, a former cutter haunted by her past, and Leah Kimathi, a fierce Nairobi activist determined to protect girls like Nia at all costs. As Nia dares to break free, others begin to wake. Her mother, torn between legacy and love. Her brother, Kip, who starts a quiet revolution among the village boys. And even Elder Namelok, keeper of tradition, begins to hear the cracks forming beneath her feet. Told with lyrical power and raw honesty, The Broken Chains is a deeply moving novel about female genital mutilation (FGM), the price of silence, and the unstoppable courage of a girl who says “no more.” It is a story of survival and transformation, of wounds inherited and voices reclaimed. This is not just Nia’s story—it is the story of every girl who has ever been told to obey, every woman who carries scars in silence, and every community daring to choose change over fear. • “Running from Shadows” is a powerful autobiographical fiction that follows the life of Kibet — a boy born into a world where family should mean protection, but instead becomes his first source of betrayal. Set in rural Kenya and the bustling streets of Nairobi, Kibet’s journey is raw, painful, and deeply human.
From the haunting silence of abuse to the violent separation of siblings, Kibet’s story is one of survival against impossible odds. He finds himself navigating the cruelty of the streets, the loneliness of forgotten promises, and the weight of truths buried by those he once called family. Yet, even in his darkest moments, Kibet clings to something more — hope. Through emotional reunions, courtroom battles, and a relentless pursuit of justice, Kibet rises from the ashes of his past to forge a new future — one not defined by pain, but by purpose. This book is for anyone who has ever been hurt, silenced, or abandoned — and still chose to stand.

DARKNESS AT NOONDAY: How Leadership U...

KShs2,500.00
Darkness at Noonday is about the many factors played by leadership that directly/indirectly retards development in Africa. The only normal place Africa should be is prosperity based on the many resources that the continent enjoys. That isn't the case because leadership allowed several things into the centrality of their governance that ultimately lead to Africa losing out on her own opportunities. First the book highlights the servile nature of the African leaders that makes them bend so low to foreigners that they are easily manipulated into serving the interests of foreign countries than those of their own countries. In this sense they facilitate foreign meddling and theft of resources by their corporations. In return, these foreign powers reward African leaders with protection in power even when they are unwanted. The foreign powers also pay the leaders heavy bribes and allow them to loot while keeping the loot in their foreign banks. This becomes a dangerous cycle of African political corruption that is backed by the international financial institutions. Through this corruption, poverty is spread amongst African communities since funds for priority programs are looted to fund luxury expenses of their elites. With this form of corruption, the book highlights how leaders then feel unsafe to leave power and hence seek every means to hang on and to manage their subjects in perpetuity. They misuse their military to crush as well as entrenching tribalism and nepotism, to reward stooges and marginalize anyone they feel could challenge them. This practice is highlighted in the book how it has lead to dangerous political competition in Africa occasionally leading to bloodshed in civil wars and election related violence. To salvage their land, the book calls on all Africans to come together, fight corruption through tech, push their leaders into accountability and observation of the laws of the land. The book puts emphasis on how Africans must stand up to foreign power meddling especially from Europe and the US because this interference bears collateral damage to all other African interests, economic, social and political. Most importantly the book calls on Africans to retake back the control of their resources because no country in the world ever made it without them first holding their own resources for their own use. Africa is no exception and the continent will never realize development in the current model where foreigners are the real owners of African resources and Africans are only but the exploited labourers extracting the same resources for foreign ventures.
