From the bestselling Author of C0nn3ctB4ck series and other Cyber Thrillers. DON’T YOU RUN A Novelette He always watched them. They were his victims … BROKEN HEARTS: It's Christmas, and Paige Mwangi is still a heartbreaker. Boys at school have always loved her, but they never could get to her. She has always played the role of the spoiled, rich, beautiful girl. Then, the worst happened last year when a close friend offered her up to a gang of school boys. She changed schools and started a new life, but the worst still followed her. THE CREEPER: Her lure crosses paths with a dangerous serial killer and rapist. A serial Predator. Through Paige’s father's company, her laptop and devices are hacked. This man is able to watch her remotely because that is exactly how he observes his targets before striking. INVESTIGATIONS: Vic is able to find out that some tools, tactics, techniques, and procedures used inside Paige’s father’s company are not just from a local African Financial Threat, but another threat actor is inside their systems and is targeting both Paige’s laptop and her father’s. The killer is much more brilliant and uses sophisticated tooling. After this killer targets Paige, the next thing left is he kidnaps her just like he did with the other girls. But he is escalating on his hunts and kills. TIME IS RUNNING OUT: He doesn’t keep a girl for more than three days. He will ask for some payment, which is usually a ruse because he eventually doesn’t honor it. Vic and his partners have to help the DCI reach her and rescue her, but time is running out. None of the victims survived so far. None of them returned home.

A Child of Two Worlds: My Journey fro...

Deeply personal and unfiltered. A Child of Two Worlds is a love letter to a fading way of life while navigating a tumultuous new world. This memoir is not just a life story; it’s a meditation on what makes a life meaningful. There’s a sincerity in the way Ummuro shares even the most painful or vulnerable parts of his life. Whether it’s the sanitary discomfort of a boarding school latrine or the haunting quiet of a desert storm, the reader is pulled into each moment. The writing does not beg sympathy, it seeks understanding. As the narrative is structured as a message to the author’s sons—who are growing up in a contemporary Western context—it offers relevance to readers experiencing generational or cultural differences. That includes immigrant families, global citizens, and readers who want to reflect on identity, roots, and legacy. The sensory detail of the stories is exceptional. The landscape is not just a backdrop—it becomes a character in itself—whether that’s the barren beauty of Susukh or the cold snow falling outside his window in North Carolina. Quotes from elders, spiritual insights from his grandfather, and thoughtful observations on the sacredness of life give the stories a layered maturity. Ummuro is documenting not just his life, but the passing of a world. He knows that many Gabra customs are fading fast, and this book feels like a tribute to the dignity, resilience, and richness of his people. What is really inspiring is Ummuro’s ability to hold both worlds with reverence, without losing his sense of identity in either. The book is not just about his personal journey, it’s a cultural archive, a love letter to the Gabra people, and a reflection on the cost and complexity of change. And even as an international development professional, he often falls back on his indigenous knowledge to humanize the data, policies and programs on health, education, community leadership and governance, and issues like drought and climate change.

1570: A street teems with activity in Renaissance Lisbon: boatmen unload passengers as jugglers entertain the crowd and vendors hawk their goods. The crowd is large, and more than half of it is Black. Most are enslaved African people performing an array of duties, but there are free Africans too, and somebody else: a Black knight astride a horse. Four hundred and fifty years later, novelist and journalist Joaquim Arena stands in a museum, transfixed by the character depicted on this canvas by an anonymous Flemish painter. He doesn’t know it yet, but the knight is Joao de Sá Panasco, a one-time slave who nevertheless became an Afro-Portuguese nobleman. So begins Under Our Skin, a wide-ranging investigation that seeks to know the people of the early African diaspora, and tell their stories. Arena was born in the tiny state of Cape Verde, a small chain of islands off the West Coast of Africa which were uninhabited before Portugal chose them for a slave-trade post—a place made famous in part by Herman Melville's essay on the nature of Cape Verdeans (known as 'Gees') who were common fixtures on whaling vessels. With this awareness, Arena creates a hybrid text of travel writing, memoir, and history, filled with portraits of complex and fascinating characters. There is Dido Elizabeth Belle, the daughter of a slave raised a gentlewoman in England; Abraham Petrovitch Gannibal, abducted from Africa as a boy, only to be groomed as a nobleman under Peter the Great; Thomas-Alexandre Dumas, son of a Haitian slave, who became a French general in the Napoleonic Wars; Jacobus Capitein, from Ghana, who studies at a European university only to become a pro-slavery Christian minister in the Netherlands; and Carlos Marcelino da Graça or ‘Sweet Daddy Grace’, from Cape Verde, who became an incredibly influential and successful church leader and faith healer in the United States. Triggered by the death of his adoptive father, Arena interlaces the stories of historical figures with those of his own childhood in Cape Verde, as well as his early years in Lisbon. Like many Cape Verdeans, his step-father was a seaman and heavy drinker whose death provides a springboard for connection to the Cape Verde immigrant experience at large. Arena ties these stories to the wider diasporas connecting the island to Europe, the US, and finally, back to Africa. In the end, the author heads to the southern tip of Portugal, known as the Algarve, where 230 Africans were brought in 1444, marking the beginning of the Atlantic slave trade. With a skillful translation by Jethro Soutar that captures Arena’s insightful, accessible style, Under Our Skin is a story unlike anything else. Of it the Jornal Económico, a leading newspaper in Portugal, has called it “the closest thing” the Portuguese language has to W.G. Sebald.
