Description

Silas is a man defined by his invisibility. A dedicated clerk within the Ministry of Trade, he spends his days as a silent, unnoticed fixture of the office, overlooked by his superiors and dismissed by the elite. But while those around him are busy consolidating wealth and influence, Silas is watching.

He sees the broken systems, the diverted grain subsidies, and the hollowed-out infrastructure of a nation suffering under the weight of greed. He sees the “men in silk ties” who dine on the starvation of the provinces. And most importantly, he sees Mr. Kalu; a man whose arrogance is only matched by his carelessness.

When Kalu pushes Silas too far, he unknowingly activates the only person in the Ministry who truly understands how the system works. From his quiet corner, Silas becomes the architect of a shadow war. Armed only with the truth and an unmatched precision for data, he begins to dismantle Kalu’s empire one encrypted file at a time.

They call him “the Devil.” But as the city of Maraba begins to wake from its fearful stupor, they realize the Devil isn’t a monster; he is simply the man who decided to turn on the lights.

The Devil Within is a tense, electrifying political thriller that explores the cost of integrity in a world built on lies. In a game where the hunter becomes the hunted, Silas proves that the most dangerous person in the room is the one who refuses to speak until it is far too late to stop him.

The Politics by Aristotle

Books, Dictionaries & References, Fiction and Non Fiction, Governance, Self Help & Motivation
KShs2,290.00
Brief Summary What is the relationship of the individual to the state? What is the ideal state, and how can it bring about the most desirable life for its citizens? What sort of education should it provide? What is the purpose of amassing wealth? These are some of the questions Aristotle attempts to answer in one of the most intellectually stimulating works. Both heavily influenced by and critical of Plato's Republic and Laws, Politics represents the distillation of a lifetime of thought and observation. "Encyclopaedic knowledge has never, before or since, gone hand in hand with a logic so masculine or with speculation so profound," says H. W. C. Davis in his introduction. Students, teachers, and scholars will welcome this inexpensive new edition of the Benjamin Jowett translation, as will all readers interested in Greek thought, political theory, and depictions of the ideal state.

Transformative Constitutionalism and Kenya: Law-making, Political Process, and the State (2010 – 2025) by Gautam Bhatia

Books, Educational Books
KShs2,500.00
A key book about rights, separation of powers and the State, which assesses a decade and a half of transformative constitutionalism in Kenya through the lens of landmark constitutional judgments, discussing their international import and suggesting new pathways towards democratic constitutionalism. In 2010, after more than two decades of struggle, Kenya's new Constitution was born. Widely accepted to be "transformative" in nature, in the decade and a half since it was enacted, the Constitution has been at the center of national discourse. And in that time, the country's courts have been confronted with crucial and high-stakes constitutional disputes, which are both distinctively Kenyan in nature, but also, are disputes that have long been common to constitutional democracies around the world: they include issues around constitutional change, federalism, imperial presidencies, the role of the legislature, election disputes, land rights, and horizontality, among others. Drawing comparisons with constitutional jurisdictions globally, which often rely upon precedent from each other's jurisdictions, this book examines transformative constitutionalism under the 2010 Constitution, and shows that while Kenyan courts have been informed by - and been in conversation with - global precedent, they have crafted unique and particular solutions. The book excavates the engagement of Kenyan Courts with the 2010 Kenyan Constitution to highlight the unique and innovative contributions that Kenyan courts have made to global constitutional problems and to suggest pathways for the future. Showcasing the jurisprudence of the courts in action, this book discusses how and when the power to amend a constitution can be limited or constrained and how constitutional change can be insulated from political interference. It examines issues of parliamentarianism and devolution in the context of the national controversy around constituency development funds, and reveals how Kenya provides a model for understanding constitutional separation of powers. It looks at the process for challenging presidential elections, and details how the Supreme Court has aimed to set out clear legal and evidentiary standards for how a court ought to deal with a pure political dispute - something with which judiciaries around the world have struggled. It explores the evolution of socio-economic rights, including the right to housing, non-discrimination, and equality before the law, as well as the question of how transformative constitutionalism interrogates private power. Placing contemporary Kenyan constitutionalism at its heart, this work of comparative constitutional law asks what the ongoing, global constitutional conversation can learn from the Kenyan experience under its new order.

Why We’re Polarized Book by Ezra Klein

Books, Governance
KShs3,000.00 KShs2,399.00
Brief Summary Discover how American politics became a toxic system, why we participate in it, and what it means for our future--from journalist, political commentator, and cofounder of Vox, Ezra Klein. After Election Day 2016, both supporters and opponents of the soon-to-be president hailed his victory as a historically unprecedented event. Most Americans could agree that no candidate like Donald Trump had ever been elected President before. But political journalist Ezra Klein makes the case that the 2016 election wasn't surprising at all. In fact, Trump's electoral victory followed the exact same template as previous elections, by capturing a nearly identical percentage of voter demographics as previous Republican candidates. Over the past 50 years in America, our partisan identities have merged with our racial, religious, geographic, ideological, and cultural identities. Those merged identities have attained a weight that is breaking much in our politics and tearing at the bonds that hold this country together. In this groundbreaking book, Klein shows how and why American politics polarized around identity in the 20th century, and what that polarization did to the way we see the world and each other. And he traces the feedback loops between our polarized political identities and our polarized political institutions that are driving our political system towards crisis. Neither a polemic nor a lament, Klein offers a clear framework for understanding everything from Trump's rise to the Democratic Party's leftward shift to the politicization of everyday culture. A revelatory book that will change how you look at politics, and perhaps at yourself.

The Political Canary Of Kenya by Akech Ochungo

Politics & Government
KShs2,500.00 KShs2,000.00
Eng. Ochungo's "The Political Canary of Kenya" offers readers an electrifying journey through three decades of political tumult in Kenya, weaving personal experiences into a compelling narrative that sheds light on the intricate web of political dynamics in the country. Hailing from the Joluo community, Ochungo asserts that his community has disproportionately shouldered the impact of Kenya's political processes, earning them the moniker 'the canary of politics in Kenya.' Eng.Ochungo takes us back to his first foray into the democratic process in 1992, vividly recounting the historic reintroduction of multiparty democracy in Kenya. His firsthand accounts of the election cycles, spanning six in total, provide readers with a ringside seat to the evolution of Kenyan politics. From the clear party divides between KANU and FORD-KENYA to the charismatic figures vying for the presidency, Ochungo's narrative is a rollercoaster of political intrigue. The book delves into the complexities of ethnicity in Kenyan politics, a revelation that dawned on Eng . Ochungo after multiple election cycles. Drawing on the insights of Oyugi and applying Max Weber's discussions on class and status groups, Ochungo posits that Kenya's political landscape is inherently marked by political inequality. Class and status interests often clash, creating a challenging decision-making process for individuals, as vividly illustrated by the hypothetical scenario involving a successful Joluo businessman. One of the highlights of the book is Ochungo's personal encounter with Jaramogi, the charismatic political figure known as 'Double O' in Africa. The author paints a vivid picture of the anticipation and excitement that surrounded Jaramogi's visit to their town during the presidential campaign. The detailed account of the encounter, accompanied by a compelling photograph, adds a human touch to the political narrative, making it relatable to readers. As readers traverse the pages of "The Political Canary of Kenya," they can expect a no-holds-barred exploration of Kenyan politics, peppered with Eng Ochungo's insightful analysis and candid observations. The book promises to unravel the intricacies of political inequality, ethnic dynamics, and the challenges faced by voters in a country with a rich yet tumultuous political history. Indeed, readers cannot afford to miss out on Eng.Ochungo's explosive account of Kenya's political landscape. "The Political Canary of Kenya" is not just a book; it's a captivating journey through the heart of Kenyan politics, offering readers a front-row seat to the drama, challenges, and triumphs that have defined the nation's democratic evolution. Shattered Lines by Mgandi Mgala

Kenya
KShs1,250.00
In a world where silence is often mistaken for peace, Shattered Lines tells the story of what happens when voices rise, and power trembles. This book was born from the unrest that pulses through modern cities, not just in Kenya, but in every corner of the world where the young demand space, justice, and dignity. At its core is a friendship forged in fire: between Zena, a visionary builder, and Tasha, her fierce and loyal counterpart. Their shared dream, to build Genya’s first youth-led, locally made car company, becomes more than just engineering. It becomes a revolution. Through the eyes of Inspector Linda Salama, a mother and police officer caught between loyalty and conscience, the book also explores how institutions bend even the most honorable into reluctant instruments of harm. Shattered Lines is not just a story about protest. It is a meditation on betrayal, healing, memory, and the cost of standing firm in a shaking world. It journeys through bustling workshops, teargassed streets, dim prison halls, and school auditoriums where young minds rewrite the syllabus of the future. In this story, every bolt tightened, every slogan shouted, and every silence held is a choice. A choice to build or break. To forget or forgive. To follow orders or write new ones. This book is dedicated to the dreamers, the builders, and the mothers of all movements, and to the generations yet to rise with tools in their hands and courage in their voices.

War by Bob Woodward

Books, Educational Books
KShs3,990.00
War is an intimate and sweeping account of one of the most tumultuous periods in presidential politics and American history. We see President Joe Biden and his top advisers in tense conversations with Russian president Vladimir Putin, Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky. We also see Donald Trump, conducting a shadow presidency and seeking to regain political power. With unrivalled, inside-the-room reporting, Woodward shows President Biden’s approach to managing the war in Ukraine, the most significant land war in Europe since World War II, and his tortured path to contain the bloody Middle East conflict between Israel and the terrorist group Hamas. Woodward reveals the extraordinary complexity and consequence of wartime back-channel diplomacy and decision-making to deter the use of nuclear weapons and a rapid slide into World War III. The raw cage-fight of politics accelerates as Americans prepare to vote in 2024, starting between President Biden and Trump, and ending with the unexpected elevation of Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee for president. War provides an unvarnished examination of the vice president as she tries to embrace the Biden legacy and policies while beginning to chart a path of her own as a presidential candidate. Woodward’s reporting once again sets the standard for journalism at its most authoritative and illuminating.
