Description

Silas is a man defined by his invisibility. A dedicated clerk within the Ministry of Trade, he spends his days as a silent, unnoticed fixture of the office, overlooked by his superiors and dismissed by the elite. But while those around him are busy consolidating wealth and influence, Silas is watching.

He sees the broken systems, the diverted grain subsidies, and the hollowed-out infrastructure of a nation suffering under the weight of greed. He sees the “men in silk ties” who dine on the starvation of the provinces. And most importantly, he sees Mr. Kalu; a man whose arrogance is only matched by his carelessness.

When Kalu pushes Silas too far, he unknowingly activates the only person in the Ministry who truly understands how the system works. From his quiet corner, Silas becomes the architect of a shadow war. Armed only with the truth and an unmatched precision for data, he begins to dismantle Kalu’s empire one encrypted file at a time.

They call him “the Devil.” But as the city of Maraba begins to wake from its fearful stupor, they realize the Devil isn’t a monster; he is simply the man who decided to turn on the lights.

The Devil Within is a tense, electrifying political thriller that explores the cost of integrity in a world built on lies. In a game where the hunter becomes the hunted, Silas proves that the most dangerous person in the room is the one who refuses to speak until it is far too late to stop him.

Building Love Against the Rising Tide. Two architects. A forgotten blueprint. A coast on the verge of change. Maya Omondi is the "iron rule" of design, brilliant, precise, and guarded. Having built an emotional fortress after a devastating betrayal seven years ago, she relies only on the cold, unyielding certainty of concrete and steel. But when a prestigious eco-resort contract in Lamu demands a collaborative bid, her past walks straight back into her boardroom. Juma Ndlovu is the creative tide, fluid, organic, and deeply connected to his Swahili heritage. He is the man who vanished with a single note a lifetime ago, leaving Maya to pick up the pieces. Now, they are forced into the same studio to design the breathtaking Baobab Retreat. As they blend her brutalist structural piers with his organic canopy, the intense professional rivalry reignites an undeniable, long-suppressed passion.

Prisoners of Geography by Tim Marshall

Books, Self Help & Motivation
KShs2,990.00 KShs2,890.00
Prisoners of Geography: Ten Maps That Tell You Everything You Need to Know About Global Politics. Maps have a mysterious hold over us. Whether ancient, crumbling parchments or generated by Google, maps tell us things we want to know, not only about our current location or where we are going but about the world in general. And yet, when it comes to geo-politics, much of what we are told is generated by analysts and other experts who have neglected to refer to a map of the place in question. All leaders of nations are constrained by geography. In "one of the best books about geopolitics” (The Evening Standard), now updated to include 2016 geopolitical developments, journalist Tim Marshall examines Russia, China, the US, Latin America, the Middle East, Africa, Europe, Japan, Korea, and Greenland and the Arctic—their weather, seas, mountains, rivers, deserts, and borders—to provide a context often missing from our political reportage: how the physical characteristics of these countries affect their strengths and vulnerabilities and the decisions made by their leaders. Offering "a fresh way of looking at maps” (The New York Times Book Review), Marshall explains the complex geo-political strategies that shape the globe. Why is Putin so obsessed with Crimea? Why was the US destined to become a global superpower? Why does China’s power base continue to expand? Why is Tibet destined to lose its autonomy? Why will Europe never be united? The answers are geographical. "In an ever more complex, chaotic, and interlinked world, Prisoners of Geography is a concise and useful primer on geopolitics” (Newsweek) and a critical guide to one of the major determining factors in world affairs.

War by Bob Woodward

Books, Educational Books
KShs3,990.00
War is an intimate and sweeping account of one of the most tumultuous periods in presidential politics and American history. We see President Joe Biden and his top advisers in tense conversations with Russian president Vladimir Putin, Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky. We also see Donald Trump, conducting a shadow presidency and seeking to regain political power. With unrivalled, inside-the-room reporting, Woodward shows President Biden’s approach to managing the war in Ukraine, the most significant land war in Europe since World War II, and his tortured path to contain the bloody Middle East conflict between Israel and the terrorist group Hamas. Woodward reveals the extraordinary complexity and consequence of wartime back-channel diplomacy and decision-making to deter the use of nuclear weapons and a rapid slide into World War III. The raw cage-fight of politics accelerates as Americans prepare to vote in 2024, starting between President Biden and Trump, and ending with the unexpected elevation of Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee for president. War provides an unvarnished examination of the vice president as she tries to embrace the Biden legacy and policies while beginning to chart a path of her own as a presidential candidate. Woodward’s reporting once again sets the standard for journalism at its most authoritative and illuminating.

The Communist Manifesto by Friedrich Engels and Karl Marx

Books, International Bestsellers
KShs1,990.00
One of the most important and influential political theories ever formulated, The Communist Manifesto is a revolutionary summons to the working class-an incisive account of a new theory of communism that would be brought about by a proletarian revolution. Arguing that increasing exploitation of industrial workers will eventually lead to a rebellion in which capitalism will be overthrown, Marx and Engels propose a vision of a society without classes, private property, or a state. The theoretical basis of political systems in Russia, China, Cuba, and Eastern Europe, The Communist Manifesto continues to influence and provoke debate on capitalism and class. TRACING PRESIDENT RUTO’S JOURNEY THROUGH HIS PUBLIC SPEECHES SINCE ASSUMING OFFICE IN 2022

International Bestsellers
KShs4,200.00 KShs3,499.00

Dr. William Samoei Ruto is the fifth President of the Republic of Kenya. This book presents a detailed analysis of his speeches delivered at the inauguration ceremony as President, on national holidays, in corporate forums, in churches, during community engagements, at global summits, and on foreign visits. It captures the evolving voice of a young democracy. By writing this book, the author aims to ensure that President Ruto's promises, commitments, directives, warnings, and achievements remain accessible to current and future generations as they seek to understand Kenya’s democratic journey and the legacy of its leadership. Promises to Keep by Joe Biden

Books, International Bestsellers
KShs2,000.00 KShs1,699.00
Brief Summary Joe Biden has both witnessed and participated in a momentous epoch of American history. In Promises to Keep, Joe Biden reveals what these experiences taught him about himself, his colleagues, and the institutions of government. With his customary candor and wit, Biden movingly recounts growing up in a staunchly Catholic multigenerational household in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and Wilmington, Delaware; overcoming personal tragedy, life-threatening illness, and career setbacks; his relationships with presidents, with world leaders, and with lawmakers on both sides of the aisle; and his leadership of powerful Senate committees. Through these and other recollections, Biden shows us how the guiding principles he learned early in life—to work to make people’s lives better; to honor family and faith; to value persistence, candor, and honesty—are the foundation on which he has based his life’s work as husband, father, and public servant. Promises to Keep is an intimate series of reflections from a public servant who surmounted numerous challenges to become one of our most effective leaders and who refuses to be cynical about politics. It is also a stirring testament to the promise of the United States.

The Political Canary Of Kenya by Akech Ochungo

Politics & Government
KShs2,500.00 KShs2,000.00
Eng. Ochungo's "The Political Canary of Kenya" offers readers an electrifying journey through three decades of political tumult in Kenya, weaving personal experiences into a compelling narrative that sheds light on the intricate web of political dynamics in the country. Hailing from the Joluo community, Ochungo asserts that his community has disproportionately shouldered the impact of Kenya's political processes, earning them the moniker 'the canary of politics in Kenya.' Eng.Ochungo takes us back to his first foray into the democratic process in 1992, vividly recounting the historic reintroduction of multiparty democracy in Kenya. His firsthand accounts of the election cycles, spanning six in total, provide readers with a ringside seat to the evolution of Kenyan politics. From the clear party divides between KANU and FORD-KENYA to the charismatic figures vying for the presidency, Ochungo's narrative is a rollercoaster of political intrigue. The book delves into the complexities of ethnicity in Kenyan politics, a revelation that dawned on Eng . Ochungo after multiple election cycles. Drawing on the insights of Oyugi and applying Max Weber's discussions on class and status groups, Ochungo posits that Kenya's political landscape is inherently marked by political inequality. Class and status interests often clash, creating a challenging decision-making process for individuals, as vividly illustrated by the hypothetical scenario involving a successful Joluo businessman. One of the highlights of the book is Ochungo's personal encounter with Jaramogi, the charismatic political figure known as 'Double O' in Africa. The author paints a vivid picture of the anticipation and excitement that surrounded Jaramogi's visit to their town during the presidential campaign. The detailed account of the encounter, accompanied by a compelling photograph, adds a human touch to the political narrative, making it relatable to readers. As readers traverse the pages of "The Political Canary of Kenya," they can expect a no-holds-barred exploration of Kenyan politics, peppered with Eng Ochungo's insightful analysis and candid observations. The book promises to unravel the intricacies of political inequality, ethnic dynamics, and the challenges faced by voters in a country with a rich yet tumultuous political history. Indeed, readers cannot afford to miss out on Eng.Ochungo's explosive account of Kenya's political landscape. "The Political Canary of Kenya" is not just a book; it's a captivating journey through the heart of Kenyan politics, offering readers a front-row seat to the drama, challenges, and triumphs that have defined the nation's democratic evolution. They Were Us: Stories of Victims and Survivors of Police Brutality in Kenya

Books, Governance
Rated 4.00 out of 5
KShs2,500.00 KShs2,000.00
They Were Us is a documentary project that reveals the systemic causes of extrajudicial executions through the stories of those most impacted by Kenya’s informal policy of state-sanctioned violence in the name of safety. In these cases, police officers are simply an extension of security policies crafted by the political elite, policies that essentially make poverty itself a crime. Police might be the ones pulling the trigger, but popular narratives of security legitimize ‘shoot-to-kill’ policing. Instead of protecting fundamental human rights, policing is imagined as an urgent response to the need to “stabilize,” “control,” and “eliminate.” Benna Buluma, MVSN Convener, arranged interviews with other people who have lost loved ones from police brutality. Wyban Kanyi interviewed them, translated and edited their conversations. Photographs taken by Betty Press.
