This play, by the renowned Kenyan thespian, Oluoch-Madiang’, is an interesting reading of the Kenyan socio-political deceits and illusions of power/authority, as well as the peoples’ presumed complicity/timidity in their own exploitation. This is a capturing play that very appropriately and in sustaining, unflinching satire captures the socio-political falsity that the Kenyan postocolony has become. The satire is sustaining as it allows the readers/audience an inner and elevated insight into the warped and fraud psyche of the Kenyan politician. The satirical/symbolic affront on words (Tapeli Pingamizi, Katili Kimeenderi, Pollutician …) is all the more arresting.

A Gift from a Stranger is a play that explores the reality of HIV/Aids using a sharp satiric tone that sends readers uproarious with laughter from beginning to the end. The play shocks readers into reform through the playwright's appropriation of wit, caricature and absurdity.

ZIONS CHILDREN by Mutendei Writes

Drama
KShs2,000.00
Zions Children is an African family drama that highlights the crisis of gender roles in land ownership that precipitated the adoption of the land inheritance law allowing women to inherit land, centering the fragility of economic systems among the Kenyan/African modern nuclear family, where the surviving wife and children of the Mwela family find themselves victims of weaponized culture by their predatory inlaw. The family struggles for survival against the backdrop of rural vs urban identity politics. Land has been such a contentious issue for Africans and the Carribean Diaspora. Given the contentious cardinal sin of land theft during colonial times, its self defeating that land theft happens among African and black diaspora communities, perpetrated by their own. Zion's Children explores the rural-urban dissasociative cultural rift among African amd Black diaspora communities through the generational trauma that impacts the children of the Mwela family when culture is used as a weapon in land theft, the pitfalls that befall them, and the lengths that they and their friends must go to, to right wrongs and reclaim what is theirs.

Who Pulled the Trigger?

Drama
KShs800.00
At the centre of this text is the question of "truth”. It tries to explore the dark machinery of a State where justice is a scripted performance and where survival depends on fear. The story follows a weary Judge presiding over Case77-B, who realises the man he must sentence is a mere pawn in a high-stakes game of political survival. While Generals Ayella and Alidu overturn the national media into a show to frame Defector Ka’yanga for a sophisticated murder, they leave a trail of broken lives in their wake—from the tortured activist Mr Short to a grieving mother who refuses to be comforted by State hymns. Through the cynical eyes of one, a fallen intellect seeking the truth at the bottom of a bottle, the play exposes the hollow "glory" of a corrupt regime. As the final curtain falls, it is clear that the real "trigger" is pulled by an entire system designed to protect the powerful at any cost.

Hannah and the Angel: Volume 1: Angels 'R' Us

Hannah and the Angel: Volume 1: Angels ‘R’ Us by Alexander Nderitu

Drama
Rated 5.00 out of 5
KShs1,500.00 KShs1,200.00
When Hannah, an adorable teenage girl, is visited by an angel, she thinks that her Hip-Hop-obsessed friend, Jack, is playing a trick on her. But the winged visitor is ‘the real deal…an angel from Heaven.’ It turns out that these ‘winged messengers of God’ are just as flawed - and humorous! – as mortal humans, and through her encounter, Hannah learns the virtue of tolerance and importance of forgiveness. 'Hannah and the Angel' is a stage play for people of all faiths. It’s a morality tale about the complexity of human relations, the struggle between the young and the old, and the duel between good and evil. It’s a sunbeam for a world made chaotic by human imperfections. It’s like being touched by an angel.
