PREFACE Stories are born not only from imagination but from lived truths, whispered fears, and the unspoken struggles that shape human existence. Married to a Devil is my attempt to give voice to those silent battles — the ones fought behind closed doors, where love is twisted into control, and trust is eroded by manipulation. This novel follows Kanyũrũ, a humble man from Limuru, whose quiet dignity becomes both his strength and his vulnerability. His marriage to Wakĩ ihũ ri, a woman of striking beauty but consuming narcissism, is not simply a tale of romance gone wrong. It is a reflection of how cultural expectations, family entanglements, and unchecked abuse can transform a union into a psychological prison. Through Kanyũ rũ ’s journey, I wanted to explore the hidden dimensions of marriage — the gaslighting, the betrayal, the subtle erosion of self-worth that so often goes unnoticed or dismissed. Wakĩ ihũ ’s rebellious daughter, her withdrawn son, and her manipulative siblings are not just characters; they are symbols of the many forces that conspire to keep victims trapped in cycles of pain. This book is not written to vilify women or glorify men, but to illuminate the reality that abuse knows no gender, and that silence only deepens suffering. It is a call to recognize the red flags, to challenge the myths of “normal” families, and to remind readers that resilience and healing are possible even in the darkest of circumstances. I am deeply grateful to my longtime friend Jane Octavio, whose Foreword frames this work with the wisdom of a counsellor who has seen such stories unfold in real life. Her words remind us that this is not just fiction, but a mirror of lived experiences across cultures and continents. May Married to a Devil serve as both a haunting story and a beacon of awareness. And may those who read it find not only empathy for Kanyũ rũ ’s plight but courage to confront their own truths. Mũthamaki Togno – Author
AUTHOR’S NOTE T his book was born out of silence — the kind of silence that suffocates, isolates, and convinces men that their pain is unworthy of voice. In telling Kanyũrũ’s story. I sought not only to break that silence but to honor the resilience of those who have carried scars in secret. What began as a narrative of survival grew into a testimony of healing, fatherhood, and the redefinition of masculinity. I did not write this story to dwell on suffering, but to illuminate the path beyond it. The characters, though shaped by trauma, are equally shaped by courage, forgiveness, and transformation. Their journeys reflect the possibility of generational repair — that sons and daughters can rise from brokenness, and that communities can learn to listen. If these pages leave you with anything, let it be the conviction that dignity is not negotiable, and that truth, however painful, is always liberating. Scars are not shame, but maps of survival. And silence, once broken, becomes a song of hope. — Mũthamaki Togno Togno

Roots Beneath Gikuyu community

African Interest
KShs2,500.00 KShs2,200.00
Roots Beneath Gĩkũyũ Community was written to uncover, preserve, and celebrate the foundational cultural, linguistic, and spiritual elements that define the Gĩkũyũ people. At its core, the work seeks to reconnect modern readers—especially younger generations—with the deep ancestral wisdom and symbolic systems that have shaped Gĩkũyũ identity for centuries. The author’s primary motivation is to explore how oral narratives, naming customs, rituals, and social structures serve as repositories of cultural knowledge. In a rapidly modernizing Kenya, where Western influence and urbanization threaten to erode indigenous traditions, this book acts as a cultural anchor. It documents the symbolic meanings behind names, the spiritual significance of Mount Kenya, and the intricate clan systems that governed marriage, kinship, and social order. By tracing the origins of the Gĩkũyũ through myth, migration, and oral history, the book challenges the notion that African traditions are simplistic or outdated. Breaking The Curse of Eve by Susan Wachira

Parenting
KShs500.00
This book is dedicated to believers in Christ who desire to raise children who can grow according to God’s will and purpose and fulfill their divine destiny. The book is intended to provide a sense of ‘urgent hope’ as well as give a good challenge to believers in the body of Christ. The author writes from a point of deep spiritual knowledge and personal encounter with God. She is persuaded that there is a hemorrhage of purpose in the lives of many of God’s children. Many encounter spiritual limitations, physical afflictions and even premature death and all these are traceable to the curse of sin. The text outlines the spiritual causes of infertility and barrenness that hinder the blessing of childbirth. She also identifies the root of human suffering that manifests right from conception of a child. She describes the forces that contend to cut short the lives of unborn babies through miscarriage, birth complications, neonatal deaths and even maternal deaths. The author provides proven spiritual mindsets and disciplines that can keep the enemy from interfering with a believer’s heritage of sexual fruitfulness and fertility. She draws the reader’s attention to the effects of misplaced sexual practices such as fornication, adultery and other sexual perversions and offers biblical formulas for purification of our sexual foundations. The book also examines the impact of inherited general cultures and practices that may affect the destiny of a child all the way to adulthood. She invites the Christian believer to be bold enough to make necessary spiritual injunctions which can alter the course of any evil cultural invocations. The author concludes by sharing wisdom on how to lay a foundation for raising children who will grow in God’s design and purpose. Her writing seeks to persuade the Christian believer to re-examine the blessing of God released in the Garden of Eden, to understand how sin interfered with that blessing, to deal with patterns of sin through salvation, aggressive watchful prayer and devotional life, and to usher in the Christian’s full entitlement. The book reveals the pathway to the full blessing of God manifesting through peace, health and divine prosperity according to God’s revealed word. The book speaks to young people who are entering into family life. It speaks to men and women who are daily dealing with spiritual attacks in the area of their reproductive health. It speaks to parents who are raising children amid interference from worldly patterns that seem to veer from the intended divine paths. It speaks to pastors and other spiritual caregivers who are daily seeking to impart believers for effective blessed living.

Power Moms: How Executive Mothers Navigate Work and Life by Joann Lublin

Books, Business, Entrepreneurs, Parenting, Women
KShs4,000.00 KShs3,299.00
Brief Summary For the first time in American history, a significant number of mothers are heading major corporations, including General Motors, Ulta Beauty, and Best Buy. Over the past several decades, women have made gains throughout executive suites. Yet these “Power Moms” still struggle with balancing their management responsibilities with raising children. Joann S. Lublin draws on the experiences of the nation’s two generations of these successful women to measure how far we’ve come—and how far we still need to go. Lublin combines her own insights with those of eighty-five executive mothers across industries—including experienced public-company chiefs such as Carol Bartz, the first woman to command Autodesk and Yahoo; Hershey’s Michele Buck, DuPont’s Ellen Kullman, ITT’s Denise Ramos, and WW International’s Mindy Grossman—and twenty-five of their grown daughters. Lublin reveals how trailblazer boomers, many now in their sixties, often endured sweeping disapproval for their demanding management careers, even as their own daughters sometimes rejected their choices. While the second wave of executive mothers—all under forty-five—handle working parenthood with less angst, they still lead stressful lives. Power Moms provides lessons and advice to help today’s professional women, their families, and their employers navigate this challenging terrain. Lublin looks at the trade-offs mothers are too often forced to make between work and family and the root causes, including the dearth of large-scale paid parental leave and other family-friendly policies. While it celebrates the gains women have made, Power Moms makes clear how much more must be done to make being a working mother easier.

The Essential First Year

Books, Parenting
KShs1,695.00 KShs1,611.00
As many of us become parents at a later stage, when our adult lives are well established, the arrival of a baby brings an unpredictability that can be hard to cope with. Those who are used to managing their time in the workplace can be tempted to try to manage their infant in the same way. So-called "controlled crying" has been recommended by many recent childcare guides, but parents should be aware of the high cost of such methods to their baby. In The Essential First Year Penelope Leach shows parents how they can reach a harmonious balance between their baby's needs and their own. While babies and their needs have not changed, our lifestyles have, and Penelope Leach has written the perfect manual for busy 21st century parents, which spans from pregnancy to the child's first birthday. The book is a gentle, but timely reminder that the fundamental purpose of having children is to share happiness. The happier a baby is, the more parents will enjoy being with him or her; being responsive to one's baby does not mean that it has to be at personal expense - the happiness of parents and baby is inextricably intertwined. The Essential First Year is not just full of sensible, practical advice, it is backed by more than ten years of new research into infant development, especially in brain growth, which now confirms, for instance, just how much fathers matter to their infant's progress, how girls' and boys' brains are different at birth (and develop differently) and how helping a baby to be calm, contented, amused, and interested leads to optimum development of body and brain. Using such information, Penelope Leach shows parents how to deal with problems as well as how to prevent them. Every parent wants to do the best for their baby and for the child that the baby will become. The Essential First Year gives parents the knowledge and the tools to nurture and care for every aspect of their infant's life - to meet the baby's physical needs, to stimulate their intellectual development and ensure their emotional well-being - and most importantly, The Essential First Year helps parents to simply enjoy being parents. No girl is limited by Peter Mbuthia

Parenting
Rated 5.00 out of 5
KShs1,500.00 KShs1,100.00
This book is dedicated to the girl child. The two main characters are the dad and his daughter, where the dad is encouraging her to be a curious person, to be a critical thinker, and to ask questions with the view of gaining knowledge and elevating her self-esteem and confidence and therefore setting herself upon an exciting process of self - empowerment. In a society where the girl child faces ever-increasing challenges, she requires mentors who will walk with her as she is growing up. The girl needs to be affirmed that she is equally competitive and that her dreams are as valid as for those of everyone else. The first and most important line of mentoring should be her parents, especially her dad, who should be fully present and fully engaged in her life. Important lessons for how a girl will relate to the opposite gender are learned from her dad. If her dad treats her well, she will feel secure and confident. This book is relevant for the boy child as well, but the author intends to pay special attention to the girl child.

Where are True Parents?

Parenting
KShs700.00 KShs600.00
In Where are True Parents?, Augustine Rugutt explores ways in which parenting determines children’s behaviour and character beyond formative years. In doing so, he associates society’s changing value system, social pressures and use of technology with parenting outcomes, some of which are unpalatable in the eyes of society. He asks whether parents are truly aware of the impact of their conduct and action in shaping the future of their children. A fundamental question is whether parents truly know their children. On the other hand, do children really understand their parents? Such understanding is essential for a sound foundation for society. He makes the irrefutable case that poorly parented children are likely to be poor parents themselves. He challenges parents to understand that parenting is a God-given responsibility. As such, parents owe it to the Maker and the future of society to play their role as parents guided by teachings from the Bible. Step by step advice, most of which is informed by his work with Church, is invaluable for today’s parent.

The First 6 – A Parenting Playbook On technology: Practically every child who is 0 to 6 years old in an urban setting was born to the presence of a smart phone. They could swipe a screen before they could wipe their noses. What’s your plan with regard to the use of, access and exposure to, or ownership of “technology” in your home? This includes all gadgets and any apps therein. We have been programmed, with every likely action considered, when it comes to our online behaviour. The next few pages address some similarities between what tech is doing and what parents ought to be doing. We need to program or plan our children’s behaviour for them to survive both online and offline.
