ABOUT THE BOOK

Khaki in the sun is a poetic expression of the Nigerian experience. It shines a light on what we go through as a people, the battles we face daily in our individual capacity, as citizens living in a society where everyone lives on survival mode. The anthology does not only seek to tell, but to show by means of photography, where we currently stand, and how we fashion for ourselves tiny bits of joy amidst the chaos that is our reality. The collection employs the use of storytelling and pictures to show a vivid nature of life as it is within Nigeria, not what it ought to be, or what it can be – just what it is and how we survive through it.

The Peace Symphony

Christian Life & Practice
KShs3,000.00
Let us begin at the beginning. I met Peace Anyiam-Osigwe when I was sixteen. But she met me when I was already two years old. I had met her on the page of ThisDay. Someone had interviewed her and she was talking about her life in England and the Africa Movie Academy Awards. She looked calm, mild and charming in the pictures they had put there. There was something intimidating about her, though: her background. I tried to envy her. I tried to hate her. I felt she was an opportunist. That she had everything flowing for her. I felt she didn’t bother so much like I did. I wanted to know why most people were blessed than the others. It was until the year we started communicating that I realised that there are certain things one doesn’t need to know. That successful men and women see hell before getting to heaven. Sometimes, it doesn’t make sense wen we only tell the good sides of the stories to where we are today. Maybe, I was quick enough to conclude that her life was completely rosy, that she got everything that she wanted. That even by a snap of the finger, she could command anyone to believe in her dreams and aspirations. All these things I realized as soon as I pushed hard to know her. For some that I spoke to she was inaccessible, distant and unreachable and each time I heard people say that, I would burst into hysterical laughter. To them, they were being realistic and here I was, talking so much already about a woman I ‘barley’ knew. Knowing my kind of person, I didn’t need to know here for ages before understanding her.

The Algebra of Poverty: Eradicating Poverty in Africa Through Physics Education

Fiction and Non Fiction
KShs2,500.00 KShs2,000.00
In Africa, there’s a prevailing desire for ease and effort and intellectual pursuits seem daunting. This phenomenon is complex and multifaceted, influenced by various historical, cultural, and socio- economic factors. The legacy of the Atlantic Slave Trade, which reduced Africans to their physical attributes, has had a lasting impact on how Africans perceive themselves and their capabilities. Today, we see young men flocking to gyms, seeking to sculpt their bodies and attain a certain physical ideal. While physical fitness is great, the emphasis on physical appearance over mental toughness and intellectual pursuits is striking. Many of these individuals, despite their physical strength, struggle with mental endurance and intellectual curiosity. Reading and learning are often neglected, leaving a void in critical thinking and problem-solving skills. This trend is concerning, as it suggests that many Africans are prioritizing short-term gains and superficial achievements over long-term growth and self-improvement. The lack of emphasis on mental development and intellectual exploration can have far- reaching consequences, including a lack of innovation, poor decision-making, and a limited capacity for complex problem-solving. The following chapters will explore these themes in more depth, acknowledging the complexities and nuances of African experiences. We’ll examine how historical and cultural factors have shaped African identities and aspirations, and how we can work to promote a culture of intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, and mental resilience.

This is a vibrant collection of poems that dive headfirst into the exhilarating, heart-wrenching, and complex realms of love, loss, faith and human nature. In the Hands of a Poet

Poetry
KShs1,500.00 KShs1,300.00
In the Hands of a Poet is a journey through the thoughts, emotions, and fleeting moments that make up our lives. These poems reach into themes of love, loss, faith, humor, reflection, and the quiet in-between spaces we often overlook. Some pieces ask questions, others offer warmth, and a few may sit with you long after you turn the page. The verses in this collection explore what it means to feel deeply and to find meaning in the mundane. You’ll find poems that echo spiritual longing and others that laugh at life’s little ironies. There are verses about friendship, family, heartbreak, identity, and the slow unfolding of self-awareness. Some celebrate, some mourn, and some simply observe. The language is honest, sometimes playful, sometimes solemn—but always intent on making a connection. These poems do not demand agreement or perfect understanding. Instead, they offer space: space to feel, to question, to remember, or to simply be.

Becoming Light

Poetry
KShs1,000.00
Becoming Light is a poetic journey of resilience, healing, and awakening. Through its pages, Naomi Elim traces the human spirit’s rise from pain to purpose from doubt to self-discovery. Each poem reflects moments of faith, love, loss, courage, and the beauty of finding light even when the world feels dim. Rooted in the lived realities of womanhood, community, and hope, this collection captures the intimate and the universal struggles of becoming, the peace of surrender, and the grace of transformation. At its core, Becoming Light is about illuminating life’s dark corners through vulnerability, faith, and compassion. It’s a reminder that every wound can become a window, every ending a new beginning, and that within every soul lies a spark waiting to rise.
