The Empty Calabash by Atanasio Mwaniki

Books
KShs1,000.00 KShs700.00
The author entitles the book, The Empty Calabash in figurative language which takes the reader through some events which degrades the society and its values rather than bringing the fullness. When the values are upheld, the Calabash is full whereas when they are neglected it render to the emptiness of the Calabash. The author critically addresses these issues and their effects to the society. He asks the readers to continue embracing the positive values of the society while advocating for a change of lifestyle that will uphold our values. Any activity in the society ought to make society a better place to live. A society growth to reach its epitome, all and sundry must work towards adding value. The contrary connotes emptiness of the calabash. Positive results brings the fullness of values and negative results brings emptiness of the Calabash. If the society check and change on their lifestyle that degenerates the society, then there will be abundance that shows the completeness of the society.

The Cumbrous Society; Wake up from the slumber and think beyond your comfort zone by Atanasio Mwaniki

Books
KShs1,200.00 KShs1,000.00
In this book, the author has written on how he has grown in a very challenging background and how that has shaped his life of who he is today. He has dealt on challenges facing modern youth and has given a posit on how to overcome them. I do recommend this book to all young people or anyone doing research on modern millennial. It's a book worth to read. The author, writes on the contemporary society issues that startles it in different ways. By interpreting the contemporary event using the philosophical, social and religious tools, he enables the traumatized society to find a new sense of living in the unprecedented times.

A Revolution Brews In the heart of Bũtiama, a nation teetering on the edge of ruin, President Benito’s opulent reign is about to come to an end, and with it corruption, oppression, and broken promises. In this gripping tale of sacrifice and redemption, Fr Atanasio Mwaniki Nyaga weaves a powerful narrative of a nation reborn from the ashes of tyranny, asking: What price will one man pay to unshackle his people? Holy Crimes (Poetry) by Elove Poetry and Vincent de Paul

Poetry
KShs400.00 KShs300.00
Brief Summary Holy Crimes is a collection of crimes of love, the little things lovers do oblivious, innocently, inadvertently, sometimes deliberately and guiltily. The joys of love are compacted in the mystery behind the history love has written since time immemorial, it continues to write and shall write even in days to come. When that one single day the lover wakes and feels fluttering like a butterfly, dancing like a dervish, butterflies rioting in them thence they commit the crimes. When love ends and life has to continue, the lover commits the crimes. Crimes of love, Holy Crimes, that the lover gets away with, and shall get away with.

A Season of Blood: Poems from Kenyan Prisons by Maina wa Kinyatti

Books, International Bestsellers, Kenya Fiction, Poetry
KShs1,200.00 KShs990.00
The conditions that prisoners in Kenya endure are extremely barbaric. Every morning at 5 a.m., male prisoners are ordered out of the cells stark naked for internal body searches. The guards search their mouths and armpits, ears and nostrils. They pull, twist and squeeze their genitals. They order the prisoners to face the walls with their legs spread apart to examine their anuses for concealed weapons, money and other contraband. They use sharp sticks to probe the prisoner's rectums. In a sense, the guards are more interested in prisoners' buttocks than in the search. They make sexual remarks such as, "Look at this one, his buttocks are two mountains, it is difficult to mount him...and look at this one, his arsehole is sharped like a woman's vagina...This one has a soft arse like his mother..." After the brutal searches, the prisoners are beaten and kicked. These monstrous acts are repeated every morning. It is a humiliating and degrading. Maina was arrested on June 2, 1982 by dictator Moi's regime for the crime of thought. He was imprisoned for six years with hard labor. Despite the brutal isolation and censorship, physical and psychological torture, Maina made friends with a few prison guards who supplied him writing material and smuggled everything g he wrote out of prison and took it to Mumbi, his wife. The poems in this text were part of the written material smuggled out of prison. The themes of poems express the horrors of imprisonment, the brutality and viciousness of the Kenyan authoritarian regime, the intensification of the struggle for democracy.

Teaching My Mother How To Give Birth by Warsan Shire

Books, African Interest
KShs1,400.00 KShs1,250.00
What elevates 'teaching my mother how to give birth', what gives the poems their disturbing brilliance, is Warsan Shire's ability to give simple, beautiful eloquence to the veiled world where sensuality lives in the dominant narrative of Islam; reclaiming the more nuanced truths of earlier times - as in Tayeb Salih's work - and translating to the realm of lyric the work of the likes of Nawal El Saadawi. As Rumi said, "Love will find its way through all languages on its own". In 'teaching my mother how to give birth', Warsan's debut pamphlet, we witness the unearthing of a poet who finds her way through all preconceptions to strike the heart directly. Warsan Shire is a Kenyan-born Somali poet and writer who is based in London. Born in 1988, she is an artist and activist who uses her work to document narratives of journey and trauma. Warsan has read her work internationally, including recent readings in South Africa, Italy and Germany, and her poetry has been translated into Italian, Spanish and Portuguese.

Holy Innocence (Poetry) by Elove Poetry

Poetry
KShs400.00 KShs300.00
Brief Summary Holy Innocence is a collection of innocent musings on love, the things lovers do innocently moved by love, the emotion that makes the mind stop functioning the minute one falls helpless in to the abysmal abyss of love. May it be teen hominess, school-boy/girl crush on someone, secret admiration, harmless flirtation, infatuation, or lust for someone already taken - love does this innocently, just to fulfill the longing of a heart that is helplessly in love for which words can't describe. Holy Innocence is sensational, love poems to the max. Every girl should read this. Triond.com

And Still I Rise by Maya Angelou

Books, Fiction and Non Fiction, International Bestsellers
KShs1,890.00 KShs1,690.00
Maya Angelou’s unforgettable collection of poetry lends its name to the documentary film about her life, And Still I Rise, as seen on PBS’s American Masters. Pretty women wonder where my secret lies. I’m not cute or built to suit a fashion model’s size But when I start to tell them, They think I’m telling lies. I say, It’s in the reach of my arms, The span of my hips, The stride of my step, The curl of my lips. I’m a woman Phenomenally. Phenomenal woman, That’s me. Thus begins “Phenomenal Woman,” just one of the beloved poems collected here in Maya Angelou’s third book of verse. These poems are powerful, distinctive, and fresh—and, as always, full of the lifting rhythms of love and remembering. And Still I Rise is written from the heart, a celebration of life as only Maya Angelou has discovered it.

Welcome Home: A Guide to Building a Home For Your Soul by Najwa Zebian

Books, Fiction and Non Fiction, International Bestsellers
KShs3,200.00 KShs2,890.00
In her debut book of inspiration, poet Najwa Zebian shares her revolutionary concept of home - the place of safety where you can embrace your vulnerability and discover your self-worth. It's the place where your soul feels like it belongs, where you are loved for who you are. Building your home inside yourself - and never experiencing inner homelessness again - begins here. In Welcome Home, Zebian shares her story for the first time, powerfully weaving memoir, poetry and deeply resonant teachings into her storytelling, from leaving Lebanon at sixteen, to coming of age as a young Muslim woman in Canada, to building a new identity for herself as she learned to speak her truth. After the profound alienations she experienced, she learned to build a stable foundation inside herself, an identity independent of cultural expectations and the influence of others. With practical tools and prompts for self-understanding, she shows you how to build each room in your house, which form a firm basis for your self-worth, sense of belonging and happiness. Welcome Home provides the life-changing tools for building that inner space of healing and solace.
