Silencing Anna tells the story of a young female journalist, blacklisted from all the media houses in the country, after exposing a prominent tycoon’s clandestine activities. Kihoto Ndegwa uses his advertising millions to arm-twist editors and media owners into only publishing PR stories about him and killing negative ones in a classic illustration of media capture.

Anna struggles to keep her integrity in an often corrupt newsroom atmosphere while suffering depression and losing her faith in God. When a whistle blower gives her the chance to bring Ndegwa down, Anna takes him on again despite her fear. The resulting drama moves quickly through the streets of Nairobi, the port of Mombasa, the Indian Ocean and ultimately into the wilderness of Tsavo East National Park where Anna faces her greatest test.

An elephant rescued from the wild after poachers killed its mother holds the key to Anna’s survival. Can she be saved before it’s too late? A final heart-breaking twist ends this fast-paced thriller that you won’t want to put down for even one minute.

Fantastic book. I started it this morning at 6.30am in the salon and was glued to every single word! The first section brought out so many emotions, I was tearing up. Came home and continued reading. It is safe to say, I had a very unproductive work day, lol! By 4om. I was on the last page and actually felt sad that it was finished. A fantastic story. So very well told. Definitely worth your while. Fair warning though. Be prepared for no sleep if you start it in the evening 😁😁 Well done Ciru!

Frankenstein by Mary Shelley

Books, Fiction and Non Fiction
£11.95 £11.00
Mary Shelley began writing Frankenstein when she was only eighteen. At once a Gothic thriller, a passionate romance, and a cautionary tale about the dangers of science, Frankenstein tells the story of committed science student Victor Frankenstein. Obsessed with discovering the cause of generation and life and bestowing animation upon lifeless matter, Frankenstein assembles a human being from stolen body parts but; upon bringing it to life, he recoils in horror at the creature's hideousness. Tormented by isolation and loneliness, the once-innocent creature turns to evil and unleashes a campaign of murderous revenge against his creator, Frankenstein. Frankenstein, an instant bestseller and an important ancestor of both the horror and science fiction genres, not only tells a terrifying story, but also raises profound, disturbing questions about the very nature of life and the place of humankind within the cosmos: What does it mean to be human? What responsibilities do we have to each other? How far can we go in tampering with Nature? In our age, filled with news of organ donation genetic engineering, and bio-terrorism, these questions are more relevant than ever.

The King’s Curse

£8.50 £8.28
The final novel in the Cousins’ War series, the basis for the critically acclaimed Starz miniseries, The White Queen, by #1 New York Times bestselling author and "the queen of royal fiction” (USA TODAY) Philippa Gregory tells the fascinating story of Margaret Pole, cousin to the "White Princess,” Elizabeth of York, and lady-in-waiting to Katherine of Aragon. Regarded as yet another threat to the volatile King Henry VII’s claim to the throne, Margaret Pole, cousin to Elizabeth of York (known as the White Princess) and daughter of George, Duke of Clarence, is married off to a steady and kind Lancaster supporter—Sir Richard Pole. For his loyalty, Sir Richard is entrusted with the governorship of Wales, but Margaret’s contented daily life is changed forever with the arrival of Arthur, the young Prince of Wales, and his beautiful bride, Katherine of Aragon. Margaret soon becomes a trusted advisor and friend to the honeymooning couple, hiding her own royal connections in service to the Tudors. After the sudden death of Prince Arthur, Katherine leaves for London a widow, and fulfills her deathbed promise to her husband by marrying his brother, Henry VIII. Margaret’s world is turned upside down by the surprising summons to court, where she becomes the chief lady-in-waiting to Queen Katherine. But this charmed life of the wealthiest and "holiest” woman in England lasts only until the rise of Anne Boleyn, and the dramatic deterioration of the Tudor court. Margaret has to choose whether her allegiance is to the increasingly tyrannical king, or to her beloved queen; to the religion she loves or the theology which serves the new masters. Caught between the old world and the new, Margaret Pole has to find her own way as she carries the knowledge of an old curse on all the Tudors." " ISBN:2147483647 Author:Philippa Gregory

To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee

Books, Fiction and Non Fiction
£13.95 £12.50
The unforgettable novel of a childhood in a sleepy Southern town and the crisis of conscience that rocked it, To Kill A Mockingbird became both an instant bestseller and a critical success when it was first published in 1960. It went on to win the Pulitzer Prize in 1961 and was later made into an Academy Award-winning film, also a classic. Compassionate, dramatic, and deeply moving, To Kill A Mockingbird takes readers to the roots of human behavior—to innocence and experience, kindness and cruelty, love and hatred, humor and pathos. Now with over 18 million copies in print and translated into forty languages, this regional story by a young Alabama woman claims universal appeal. Harper Lee always considered her book to be a simple love story. Today it is regarded as a masterpiece of American literature."

The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger

Books, Fiction and Non Fiction
£13.45 £12.45
The first thing you'll probably want to know is where I was born and what my lousy childhood was like, and how my parents were occupied and all before they had me, and all that David Copperfield kind of crap, but I don't feel like going into it, if you want to know the truth. In the first place, that stuff bores me, and in the second place, my parents would have about two hemorrhages apiece if I told anything pretty personal about them." Since his debut in 1951 as The Catcher in the Rye, Holden Caulfield has been synonymous with "cynical adolescent." Holden narrates the story of a couple of days in his sixteen-year-old life, just after he's been expelled from prep school, in a slang that sounds edgy even today and keeps this novel on banned book lists. His constant wry observations about what he encounters, from teachers to phonies (the two of course are not mutually exclusive) capture the essence of the eternal teenage experience of alienation."
