Description

NDANI: Amani’s Journey – God Is With Me • Mungu Yuko Nami is a deeply nurturing children’s colouring book that blends faith, mindfulness, and emotional healing into one gentle and immersive experience.

At its heart, NDANI is more than a colouring book.
It is a tool for inner process work, carefully created to help children feel seen, safe, and connected, especially in moments of uncertainty, fear, or emotional overwhelm.

Through the journey of Amani, a young child navigating everyday emotions, readers are guided through themes of the following:

  • fear and safety
  • loneliness and belonging
  • anger and calm
  • self-worth and identity
  • forgiveness, hope, and trust

Each page unfolds as part of a continuous story, helping children understand that their feelings are not something to fix or hide… but something to gently notice, express, and move through.

 THERAPEUTICALLY INFORMED

NDANI is grounded in evidence-based and holistic approaches, including:

  • Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)
  • Mindfulness-Based Art Therapy (MBAT)
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills (emotional regulation, distress tolerance)
  • Focusing-Oriented Art Therapy (FOAT)
  • Open Studio Process (non-judgmental creative expression)

These approaches are translated into child-friendly prompts that encourage:

  • emotional awareness
  • body-based grounding
  • self-expression through art
  • gentle reflection

 A FULLY IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCE

The book features thoughtfully designed, hand-drawn colouring pages, each including:

  • a flowing, story-based narrative
  • simple, affirming language
  • Bible verses for spiritual grounding
  • mindfulness and reflection prompts
  • Swahili phrases that root the experience in Kenyan culture

Children are invited not just to colour but also to pause, breathe, and connect inwardly.

 CULTURALLY ROOTED & RELATABLE

Set within familiar Kenyan environments, NDANI reflects:

  • African homes and community life
  • village and school settings
  • nature elements such as acacia trees, birds, and sunsets
  • culturally relevant clothing, family structures, and shared spaces

This grounding allows children to see themselves in the story, creating a deeper sense of belonging and recognition.

 A MESSAGE OF CONSTANT PRESENCE

At its core, NDANI carries one powerful truth:

Even in uncertainty, even in fear, even in moments that feel empty, God is present.

Mungu yuko nawe.

 WHO THIS BOOK IS FOR

Recommended for children ages 5–12 and suitable for:

  • home use with parents and caregivers
  • classrooms and schools
  • churches and faith-based programs
  • therapy and counseling settings

It is also meaningful for older readers and adults reconnecting with their inner child.

 ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Remina Nduta is a therapist in training in Marriage and Family Therapy, with a deep interest in inner child work, mindfulness, and faith-based healing.

Her work is rooted in the belief that healing begins when individuals are given space to

  • feel without judgment
  • express without pressure
  • and reconnect with a sense of safety within themselves

NDANI was created as a love letter to the inner child—a gentle offering for children and families navigating emotional experiences and a reminder that no one is ever truly alone.

 WHY NDANI MATTERS

In a world where children are often taught to be strong before they are taught to feel, NDANI creates a different kind of space:

A space where:

  • emotions are welcomed
  • silence is safe
  • creativity becomes healing
  • and God is experienced as near, steady, and loving

NDANI is not just a colouring book.
It is a quiet companion for the child’s inner world.

In the House of the Interpreter by Ngugi wa Thiong’o

Books, African Interest
KShs1,500.00 KShs1,190.00
Renowned novelist, poet, playwright, and literary critic Ngugi wa Thiong’o was a student at a prestigious, British-run boarding school near Nairobi when the tumultuous Mau Mau Uprising for independence and Kenyan sovereignty gripped his country. While he enjoyed scouting trips and chess tournaments, his family home was razed to the ground and his brother, a member of the insurgency, was captured by the British and taken to a concentration camp. But Ngugi could not escape history, and eventually found himself jailed after a run in with the forces of colonialism. Ngugi richly and poignantly evokes the experiences that would transform him into a world-class writer and, as a political dissident, a moral compass to us all. A winning celebration of the implacable determination of youth and the power of hope, here is a searing account of the history of a man—and the story of a nation.

The Wretched Africans: A Study of Rabai and Freretown Slave Settlements by Joe Khamisi

Books, African Interest
Rated 5.00 out of 5
KShs1,900.00
Brief summary The Wretched Africans: A Study of Rabai and Freretown Slave Settlements. This book is about the 19th century slave trade in Eastern and Central Africa. No one in the history of humankind has suffered the indignity, abuse and pain of slavery than the African. Over many centuries, millions of Africans were uprooted from their quaint villages in the interior of the "Dark Continent" and taken into slavery. They were exported to the Americas, Asia, Arabia and a dozen other countries around the globe, to work in plantations, in the pearl industry, and as soldiers and domestic workers. Boys were castrated and made eunuchs and girls were sexually abused and forced into harems. Unfortunately, the African slave narrative - written mostly by Western historians and missionaries - has been contemptibly distorted to portray Europeans as the gallant saviors, the notorious slave traders as swaggering heroes, and the African captives as wretched victims of a horrible but regrettably inevitable human phenomenon of the time. The truth has been loftily garbled or masked and the role of liberated Africans vastly under-represented. The Wretched Africans peels of what is beneath the Arab slave trade, unravels the racism and abuse meted against Africans by European explorers and missionaries, and lays bare the heroism and resilience of the African captives. It memorializes Africans who died in caravan trails, at sea and those who found freedom in slave settlements around the world. It is a must read for historians, researchers, students and the general public wanting to understand the truth about what happened to an estimated eleven million people taken captive from the east coast of Africa to the new world and beyond.

UNsilenced by Rasna Warah

Books, African Interest
KShs1,899.00 KShs1,799.00
In a world experiencing increasing conflicts, terrorism and displacement, many people are wondering what the United Nations – the organization established in 1945 to save future generations from the scourge of war – should or could have done to prevent these disasters from escalating. UNsilenced shows that, in fact, the UN has remained a bystander in many of these conflicts and that peace-building efforts have not only been undermined by the five permanent members of the UN Security Council, but also by the UN's many agencies and programmes. The book exposes how, under the guise of development, stability and the "war on terror", the UN fails to prevent conflicts in many parts of the world, and in some cases, misleads the public about the scale of a problem. The book also reveals the web of lies, cover-ups, corruption and impunity within the United Nations that has allowed wrongdoing to continue unabated. Many of these acts of wrongdoing occur or continue because the UN fails to protect whistleblowers; on the contrary, most UN whistleblowers experience severe retaliation. UNsilenced describes how whistleblowers have been denied justice within the UN system and how the immunity accorded to UN officials and the conflict of interest inherent in the UN's internal justice system allow the perpetrators of criminal or unethical activities to go unpunished. The book is an urgent call for a serious reform of this bureaucratic, arcane and increasingly politicized organization – because not doing so constitutes a betrayal of the trust invested in it by the people and countries that depend on it.

Birth of a Dream Weaver by Ngugi wa Thiong’o

Books, African Interest
KShs1,800.00 KShs1,490.00
Brief Summary Birth of a Dream Weaver charts the very beginnings of a writer’s creative output. In this wonderful memoir, Kenyan writer Ngugi wa Thiong’o recounts the four years he spent in Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda—threshold years where he found his voice as a playwright, journalist, and novelist, just as Uganda, Kenya, Congo, and other countries were in the final throes of their independence struggles. James Ngugi, as he was known then, is haunted by the emergency period of the previous decade in Kenya, when his friends and relatives were killed during the Mau Mau Rebellion. He is also haunted by the experience of his childhood in a polygamous family and the brave break his mother made from his father’s home. Accompanied by these ghosts, Ngugi begins to weave stories from the fibers of memory, history, and a shockingly vibrant and turbulent present. What unfolds in this moving and thought-provoking memoir is both the birth of one of the most important living writers—lauded for his "epic imagination” (Los Angeles Times)—and the death of one of the most violent episodes in global history.

When the history of Kenya is told, a number of people feature prominently. One such person is Dr Julius Gikonyo Kiano, a politician who put Kenya before self.
