Terrorism Betrayal and Resilience My Story of the 1998 U.S. Embassy Bombings

Books, AutoBiography
KShs3,999.00 KShs3,800.00
Brief Summary On August 7, 1998, three years before President George W. Bush declared the War on Terror, the radical Islamist group al-Qaeda bombed the American embassy in Nairobi, Kenya, where Prudence Bushnell was serving as U.S. ambassador. Terrorism, Betrayal, and Resilience is her account of what happened, how it happened, and its impact twenty years later. When the bombs went off in Kenya and neighboring Tanzania that day, Congress was in recess and the White House, along with the entire country, was focused on the Monica Lewinsky scandal. Congress held no hearings about the bombings, the national security community held no after-action reviews, and the mandatory Accountability Review Board focused on narrow security issues. Then on September 11, 2001, al-Qaeda attacked the U.S. homeland and the East Africa bombings became little more than an historical footnote. Terrorism, Betrayal, and Resilience is Bushnell's account of her quest to understand how these bombings could have happened given the scrutiny bin Laden and his cell in Nairobi had been getting since 1996 from special groups in the National Security Council, the FBI, the CIA, and the NSA. Bushnell tracks national security strategies and assumptions about terrorism and the Muslim world that failed to keep us safe in 1998 and continue unchallenged today. In this hard-hitting, no-holds-barred account she reveals what led to poor decisions in Washington and demonstrates how diplomacy and leadership going forward will be our country's most potent defense. The Silent Gun by Mohamed Abdulahi

Books
KShs1,200.00 KShs1,000.00
When drafting this book, | was like someone whose house was on fire, whose family members were living in that house including his/her mother, father, spouse and siblings with no fire extinguishers nearby. At the same time, family members who are inside the house are unaware of the fire incidents. And the people around the neighbourhoods are unable to see the burning houses. So, the combination of my house is on fire, my people being unaware inside the house, the lack of fire extinguisher and the neighbourhood being unable to see the burning house necessitated me to write up this book entitled “The Silent Gun”. Since people are unable to see and hear the problem in the Horn of Africa-the predominant Somali dwelling territories, I wanted to manifest the magnitude of the problem through extensive literature review, interview key informants and my own observations and life experiences. The book contains real stories, case studies and research findings from Somalia and around the world. Mohamed Abdulahi was born in 1979 in East Africa and lived there the majority of his life. Having studied neaceandConflict Resolution, Abdulahi became a peace activist who is working at national and regional levels for peace. He considers himself as a peace ambassador and strongly believes peace will only come through responsible actions and forgiveness. He is the author of several books where he focuses on the foundations required for peace to be established for his people in East Africa. Mohamed Abdulahi hopes that by highlighting these )silent) problems that many do not realize are there, he can help inspire and empower others to seek to establish greater peace on this earth

Virgin Way

Books, AutoBiography
Rated 4.00 out of 5
KShs1,695.00 KShs1,611.00
Now Branson gives an inside look at his strikingly different swashbuckling style of leadership. Learn how fun, family, passion, and the dying art of listening are key components to what his extended family of employees around the world have always dubbed (with a wink) the "Virgin Way.” This unique perspective comes from a man who dropped out of school at sixteen, suffers from dyslexia, and has never worked for anyone but himself. He may be famous for thinking outside the box—an expression he despises—but Branson asserts that "you’ll never have to think outside the box if you refuse to let anyone build one around you.” This is a unique book on leadership from someone who readily admits he has never read a book on leadership in his life. So expect the unexpected."" ISBN:1591847564 Author:Richard Branson

In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago world, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue—Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is—she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself. During the highly competitive initiation that follows, Beatrice renames herself Tris and struggles alongside her fellow initiates to live out the choice they have made. Together they must undergo extreme physical tests of endurance and intense psychological simulations, some with devastating consequences. But Tris also has a secret, one she's kept hidden from everyone because she's been warned it can mean death.
