Description

Wema, the book, is staged in Nairobi, covering the two extremes of affluence and poverty. From open sewers to expensive wines in Diani. From guns to holding hands under the moonlight. From leftover githeri to italian cuisines. It has a little bit of everything. Born of a slum criminal and a 16-year-old downtown twilight girl, Wema is quickly thrust into a life of uncertainty.

Mary and Omosh, Wema’s parents, are on a roll of bad decisions, which slowly entangles those around them. As Bethi, the bartender, and Terry, the kibanda owner, watch the drama from their establishments, Janet, Nalla and Bilal have to make Lemonade from the truckload of Lemons they are dealt.

How far is Mary willing to go to survive in the concrete jungle?

When I learned how to walk and other poems by Mumbi Macharia

Books, African Interest, Kenya Fiction, Poetry
£10.00 £9.00
Brief Summary 'When I learned how to walk & other poems', is a compilation of 17 poems written by myself (I have been a performing spoken word poet in Nairobi for the past 5 years, and this is my debut poetry book). The poems in this book span a wide range of topics, from African power, love, identity, mental health, and the inevitability of heartbreak. The book is a small one, 61 pages, however, it contains poems that are meant to be re-read as many times as the reader wishes. The book is largely in English, and contains a few lines in Swahili, with one of the poems being entirely in Swahili. ISBN:9789914700473 Author: Mumbi Macharia

My Life in Crime by John Kiriamiti

Books, African Interest, Fiction and Non Fiction, Kenya Fiction
Rated 5.00 out of 5
£9.00 £7.95
The late 1960's and early '70s may be remembered as the years of the great bank and other armed robberies in Kenya. This is the true story of one of the participants in some of those robberies, John Kiriamit. In raw and candid language, Kiramiti tells the story of how he dropped out of secondary school when he was only fifteen years old, and for a time became a novice pickpocket, before graduating into crimes like car-breaking and ultimately into violent robbery. This spell-binding story takes the reader into the underworld of crime, and it depicts graphically the criminal's struggle for survival against the forces of law.
