The Sovereign Brothel” explores the collective surrender to transactional corruption in the typical neocolonial state. It also highlights the intersection of corrupt dealings among multinational corporations, global finance cartels, and the ruling comprador elite. These players engage in a complex web of plunder that leaves the complicit ordinary citizens dispossessed, and vulnerable to violence. While the politician institutionalizes systemic corruption, the oppressed serve as the enablers of corruption, sanitizing their complicit interests as mere survival tactics. The human cost of the actions is highlighted through the experiences of Amina, who despite getting an education can’t find a job. Mama Njeri, an old woman is also caught in the crossfire, leaving her dispossessed of her ancestral land.
