Mwancha Okioma holds B.Sc. (Hons), M.Sc. degrees from the University of Nairobi and has finalized a Ph.D. degree programme at Egerton University, Njoro. Mwancha Okioma was appointed as director of the Kenya Institute for Public Policy Research and Analysis (KIPPRA) and is the immediate former chairman of the Commodities Fund, a state parastatal which offers easily accessible credit to the coffee, sugarcane, coconut palms and bananas sub-sectors in the country.
He is now serving as a member of the Coffee Revitalization Steering Committee under the ministry of Cooperatives and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development. The author has experienced firsthand the joy and sorrow that follow after payment of earnings from all these cash crops and the fights that are put up by the children especially the sons demanding their share. Some of the sons disappear from home for a period of time, only to reappear after spending all their money.
The average age of a coffee farmer in Kenya today is sixty years. That tells you that the youth have little or no interest in farming.
Unfortunately, some of those youths have little or no interest in anything else. Therefore, the author understands the essence of bringing up a son who is disciplined and focused as well as a man of integrity prepared to navigate through the corridors of this fast changing as well as challenging world.
Frank Talk to My Son is a compilation of the author's experience with fathers who shared with him the challenges they have faced as they chaperone their sons to be grown-ups who would be able to care for their immediate and wider families as their aging parents enter their sunset years. Mwancha Okioma is the author of: What They Don't Teach You Before Marriage, one of the bestselling books in The Happy Family Life Series.
