Jane was right: every flower carries a thorn. Beauty walks hand-in-hand with ache. Sometimes, the sting finds you in silence, only known by the mark it leaves behind.

But I stayed. Rooted. Floriculture became my home, where purpose met passion, and my mission took root: to guide others to their own mountaintops, to help them find truth, not just blooms. I vowed to leave behind a garden scented with integrity, watered with courage.

In The Wake Of Silence

Books
KShs200.00 KShs187.00
In the Wake of Silence is a heartfelt memoir of grief, family, and fragile faith in the face of loss. When Richie learns—first through a Facebook post, then a phone call—that his cousins Faith and Hope have died just three days apart, his world collapses. As he revisits Faith’s harrowing battle with advanced throat cancer, Hope’s quiet suffering in a wheelchair, and their father’s broken questions at the graveside, he also seeks answers from a doctor about what really fuels cancer and how choices, systems, and silence shape our health. Moving between hospital rooms, graveyards, and remembered laughter, the story becomes a tribute to two inseparable sisters and a call to live wisely, love deeply, and honour God while there’s still time.

She Is My Mother

By Munai Ndenga

She Is My Mother is a powerful family drama that honors the silent strength of a woman whose life of sacrifice becomes the foundation of generations. Through a tense family reunion led by the eldest son, Jamlek, long-buried truths emerge about their mother, Sophia—her survival of domestic violence, abandonment, betrayal, and her unwavering devotion to her children.

As the siblings confront their past, they also face a devastating present: Sophia is critically ill. At her hospital bedside, painful confessions, forgiveness, and reconciliation unfold. Despite a life marked by suffering, Sophia chooses grace over bitterness and leaves her children with a final legacy—one that calls for the end of domestic abuse, the protection of family, and the building of homes rooted in faith, respect, and love.

When she passes, her children are left not only with grief but also with purpose. Her story becomes their calling to break cycles of violence and silence.

She Is My Mother is a moving tribute to motherhood, resilience, forgiveness, and the power of love to transform pain into legacy.

Petals of Blood by Ngugi Wa Thiongio

Books, African Interest, Fiction and Non Fiction, Kenya Fiction
KShs1,000.00 KShs850.00
The Mau Mau rebellion, as it is often called, which began in Kenya in the early 1950s, was a nationalist, anticolonial armed resistance against the British colonial state. The guerrilla movement called itself the Kenya Land Freedom Army; the British dubbed the movement “mau mau,” a meaningless name, to obscure the aims otherwise so clear in the resistance army’s name. Ngugi Wa Thiongío’s Petals of Blood examines, among other things, the betrayal by the postcolonial regime of the ideals of this anticolonial struggle that helped Kenya achieve its independence. The novel revolves around three men and a woman. The four friends reveal different aspects of their history to each other piecemeal, just as their families had guardedly explained the past to them. The lingering effects of the Mau Mau revolt have affected all their lives and by the end of the novel, each character is wrapped up in his or her own exclusive epiphany about life in Kenya. Abdullah, the trader, thinks he failed the movement because he did not avenge the death of a friend who was a revolutionary and who was betrayed. Munira, the schoolteacher and eventual wide-eyed prophet, is paralyzed by the shadow of his successful father, who condemned the Mau Mau but aided the crony corruption of independent Kenya. Wanja, the beauty from a broken home, learns that it was two generations of revolutionary fervor that distorted the home she grew up in. And Karega, Thiongío’s union-pushing hero, scrutinizes the history of Mau Mau as if it were a sacred text. Somewhere in that history, they all believe, is the key to wisdom and justice.

The People of Ostrich Mountain by Ndirangu Githaiga

Books, Fiction and Non Fiction, Kenya Fiction
KShs2,000.00 KShs1,500.00
Brief Summary As the 1950s Mau Mau war breaks out in the foothills of Mt. Kenya, Wambũi, a fourteen-year-old girl leaves her besieged village to join a prestigious boarding school a half day’s journey away by train. There, she becomes aware of her extraordinary mathematical abilities discovered by her teacher, Eileen Atwood. Initially, Wambũi views Eileen’s attentions with suspicion and hostility, but over time, the two grow close and form a lifelong friendship. Unfortunately for Wambũi, the mid-twentieth century isn’t ready for a female math prodigy, particularly in Kenya. But she quietly and defiantly takes on the obstacles seeking to define her, applying her unusual gifts in new directions, which ultimately benefits her impoverished family and inspires her siblings and their children to pursue their own dreams. After forty years in Kenya, Eileen unexpectedly loses her employment authorization and is forced to return to England, where she struggles to adjust to living in a country she barely recognizes. Meanwhile, Wambũi’s son, Ray, a doctor, navigates a fraught visa application process and travels to America to begin residency training; however, his hospital becomes insolvent and shuts down a year later. He and his colleagues are assimilated into other programs where, as foreign-born physicians, they endure relentless prejudice. As a black man, he also discovers that the streets of Chicago are sometimes quick to judge, with serious consequences. A saga of family and friendship spanning five decades and three continents, 'The People of Ostrich Mountain' chronicles the interconnected lives of three outsiders as they navigate the vagaries of race, gender and immigration.

Brief Summary The book has powerfully underpinned the need for awareness creation and the building of a new ADR culture. The author has persuasively argued that courts are firefighting backlogs, but the actual fire is out there in the wider society.
