Bildad Kaggia and the Struggle for Socialism in Kenya, 1921 – 2005. Edited by Shiraz Durrani And Brian Mathenge

Books, African Interest
KShs2,000.00
"Since the days of my primary school, I have always been a fighter," said Bildad Kaggia. Like Makhan Singh and Pio Gama Pinto, Bildad Kaggia struggled against imperialism in all its phases: capitalism, colonialism and neo-colonialism, first gainst British colonialism, then against the comprador government of lom enyatta imposed by imperialism on the working people of Keny While many gave up the struggle at independence and joined Kenyatta in looting the land and condemning workers and peasants to landlessness and poverty, Bildad Kaggia preferred to continue the struggle and live the life of a peasant. That example remains to this day for the post-independence generations. Kaggia was active in Mau Mau, in the trade union movement, in writing and publishing. He added a cultural and religious aspect to his struggle. He ended up in colonial detention but refused to give up the struggle for the aims of Mau Mau. He was a member of its Central Committee. Imperialism has used the comprador governments to distort and hide Kaggia's contribution to the struggle for the liberation of Kenya. They prevented the full publication of his autobiography which appeared as Roots of Freedom, but stopped the story in 1963, removing his struggle against the comprador government. This gap was finally filled in 2012 with the publication of The Struggle for Freedom and Justice. March 7, 2026 marked the 21st anniversary of Bildad Kaggia's death. We publish a collection of essays to mark his life and record his contribution to the liberation of Kenya. His clear ideological stand and actions to achieve his vision of a Kenya with freedom and justice for working people is what scared imperialism and the comprador governments. Generations born after independence need his history to support their own struggles against capitalism and imperialism.

Of Women In the 21st Century

Books, Fiction and Non Fiction
KShs2,899.00 KShs2,755.00
Brief Summary A powerful, urgent and timely polemic on why women still need equality, and how we get there It is the greatest human rights abuse on the planet. It blights first and developing worlds, rich and poor women's health, wealth, education, representation, opportunity and security everywhere. It is no exaggeration to describe it as an 'apartheid', but not limited to one country or historical period. Gender injustice, Shami Chakrabarti shows, is an ancient and continuing wrong that is millennial in duration and global in reach. As we move forward in the twenty-first century, a time of crises the world over, Shami Chakrabarti lays out the huge challenges we face with honesty and clarity. We have not yet done enough to create a more equal world: one where women and men share power, responsibility and opportunity. One that is potentially happier and more peaceful. One where no life is wasted, and everyone has a chance to fulfil their potential. Instead, we've been playing around at the edges. What's needed now is radical change. From the disparity in the number of births to issues of schooling, work, ownership, faith, political representation and international diplomacy, Of Women outlines what needs fixing and makes clear, inspiring proposals about what we do next, putting women's rights at the centre of the progressive political agenda. Spycraft The Secret History of the CIAs Spytechs from Communism to Al-Qaeda

Books, Fiction and Non Fiction
KShs2,099.00 KShs1,995.00
Brief Summary An unprecedented history of the CIA's secret and amazing gadgetry behind the art of espionage In this look at the CIA’s most secretive operations and the devices that made them possible, Spycraft tells gripping life-and-death stories about a group of spytechs—much of it never previously revealed and with images never before seen by the public. The CIA’s Office of Technical Service is the ultra-secret department that grappled with challenges such as: • What does it take to build a quiet helicopter? • How does one embed a listening device in a cat? • What is an invisible photo used for? These amazingly inventive devices were created and employed against a backdrop of geopolitical tensions—including the Cold War, the Cuban Missile Crisis, and continuing terrorist threats. Written by Robert Wallace, the former director of the Office of Technical Service, and internationally renowned intelligence historian Keith Melton, Spycraft is both a fantastic encyclopedia of gadgetry and a revealing primer on the fundamentals of high-tech espionage. Through My African Eyes by Jeff Koinange

Books, African Interest
Rated 5.00 out of 5
KShs3,890.00 KShs3,500.00
"Through My African Eyes!” is a concise narrative covering some of the major players in 20th century African politics. The book is rich with insights into the personal and intellectual underpinnings of many historical events in Africa. Chronicles of some pretty interesting Africans from warlords, soldiers, victims and politicians lend insight into Jeff’s celebrated journalistic style. Through his eyes we are made to understand the role of journalist’s as binders of our social fabric. "Through My African Eyes” is very informative and quite humorous, utilizing a modern quick precise narrative style. He is able to describe complex global geopolitical issues with incisive analysis. The book surf’s one through the experience with speed and historical accuracy. We see the visual the words impart, rather than being stuck in prose. The best part is being able to walk the journey informed by a largely Kenyan perspective. Jeff outlines clearly how biased reportage can splinter any society and promote its disintegration by pandering to people’s lowest instincts. The narrative draws out lesser-known aspects of his life. Jeff’s unblinking examination of his grandfather’s life is historically illuminating and serves as a symbolic bridge between the beginning and the end of colonialism. Jeff is the first African ever to win a Television Emmy and a George Foster Peabody. He merited the Vernon Jarrett Award as well as the prestigious! ‘Prix Bayeux’ for reportage that arrested global crises."
