Long ago in the golden savanna near Eldoret, under a giant baobab tree, lived a small hare named Sungura. He wore a red scarf from his grandmother. He was clever and fast, but lonely. All animals said, “Sungura tricks too much!”

 

One evening he saw smoke far away — a small farm! An old man, Mzee Juma, was watering maize and singing. “Hujambo, little hare!” said Mzee Juma. “I have no friends,” said Sungura. “Then you have found a home,” said Mzee Juma. Inside the farm, a brown dog Bwewe and a white sheep Kondoo were watching.

 

Hapo zamani katika savanna ya dhahabu karibu na Eldoret, chini ya mbuyu mkubwa, aliishi sungura mdogo aitwaye Sungura. Alivaa kitambaa chekundu kutoka kwa bibi yake. Alikuwa mwerevu na mwepesi, lakini mpweke. Wanyama wote walisema, “Sungura anadanganya sana!”

 

Jioni moja aliona moshi mbali — shamba dogo! Mzee mmoja, Mzee Juma, alikuwa akimwagilia mahindi na kuimba. “Hujambo, sungura mdogo!” Mzee Juma alisema. “Sina marafiki,” Sungura alisema. “Basi umepata nyumba,” Mzee Juma alisema. Ndani ya shamba, mbwa kahawia Bwewe na kondoo mweupe Kondoo walikuwa wakitazama.
