A reference book for oral literature, poetry, fiction and nonfiction. It has detailed notes, scenarios and assessments for senior school learning. All the three grade 10 set texts have been covered.

8This reference book has been carefully developed to meet the learning needs of Grade 10 students in line with the Competency Based Education (CBE) curriculum designs by the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD). It provides detailed notes and structured learning activities across the four key areas of English: Listening and Speaking Skills, Reading Skills, Grammar in Use, and Writing Skills. The book adopts an interactive and learner-centred approach that not only builds academic knowledge but also nurtures the core competencies and values envisioned in the CBE framework. Each strand is guided by key inquiry questions that encourage learners to think critically, communicate effectively, and relate concepts to real-life experiences. To promote gradual and meaningful learning, the book is divided into nine comprehensive units that are drawn from the themes outlined in the KICD curriculum designs. Within every strand, learners will find: • Step-by-step explanations and detailed notes. • Engaging learning activities to consolidate understanding. • Well-structured sample exercises with expected responses to enhance self-assessment and reflection. At the end of the book, learners are provided with sample assessment tasks, complete with expected responses and a marking rubric. This equips them with the skills to handle classroom tasks, examinations, and real-life communication challenges confidently. It is my hope that this book will serve as a reliable companion to both learners and teachers, fostering excellence in English while instilling lifelong values of creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking.
