What are good years for? We spend much of our lives preparing for or adjusting to difficult times, seeking resilience to adversity and strong recovery in the aftermath. But what should we do when conditions are favorable - when pressure eases, opportunities widen, and there is room to build, invest, strengthen, or prepare? The Good Year explores that overlooked question. Here, the "good year" is not simply a year of prosperity or good fortune. It is a metaphor for any period in which circumstances create room - room to make choices, build capabilities, deepen relationships, prepare for the future, and shape what comes next. Drawing on examples from public systems, organizations, and personal life, The Good Year shows that favorable periods are often misunderstood. They are misread as permanent, consumed too quickly, or allowed to drift away without creating lasting value. Part reflection, part framework, and part practical guide, The Good Year argues that the true measure of favorable times is not how comfortable they are, but what they leave behind. At its heart, the book is about judgment: recognizing the room that life occasionally creates and using it, gradually and deliberately, to build a future that is stronger, wiser, and less fragile than the present.
