Imagine being born during a time when people still wore hides and skins, walked barefoot, and through forests undeterred. In this inspiring story, Leah Wangari Gichuru narrates her life story; one of living in both colonial and post-colonial times, and traversing all that to experience the vagaries of the current modern life. She lived through the Kenyan independence struggle, and lives on to tell her compelling story and experiences. Leah was a staunch Christian right from her childhood, when being one was not only frowned upon, but was also viewed as being allied to the colonialists. She also went to school during a time when educating girls was highly disregarded. Leah, who has beat so many odds having lived for over nine decades, and still counting, narrates her earlier life experiences with both gusto and nostalgia. Come along and enjoy the read.
