Book Title
Understanding ADHD and Neurodiversity In an African Context
Synopsis
Mental Illness: The word conjures a sickly picture of a madman with dirty, dreaded hair bumbling around half-naked in the streets; A typical African perspective, but it extends throughout the world.
Sadly, the world is okay with mental illness until one displays the symptoms. They chastise and ostracise the sufferer beyond reckoning. They seclude them from society.
To avoid this stigmatisation, the victims mask the symptoms. They choose silence. They are faced with enormous stress, hiding their panic attacks, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and neurodivergence. Some manage to thrive. But at what cost?
With ideas for an unorthodox way of restoring mental wellness, this book sheds light on the attributes of living with ADHD.This is my experience backed up by research and wide experience from key sources
I yearn to break the stereotypes, especially within Kenya, of mental health.
To openly engage in the contentious wellness issue. To invoke a collective voice to reach new audiences through shedding light on Neurodiversity and mental illness.
