In Understanding Be Men Unknown to many, Meru School was founded on a crucible of fire and brimstone. Fire because the very first crop of learners to be enrolled in the Kaaga Mission School (Mambere) in 1913 were incinerated by a vengeful gang of Meru warriors in March 1914. Brimstone came 40 years later when the state of emergency was declared in October 1952, ushering in the Mau Mau rebellion that midwifed independence 12 years later.
