Godfrey Kagwima Muriithi is a writer and the founder of Tension Press in Nairobi. He grew up tracking every shilling in a green ledger book, raised on the belief that discipline, saving, and staying within your means were the whole of a good life. For years he followed that script faithfully, and for years he felt the quiet unease the Germans call Unbehagen: the sense of doing everything right and still going nowhere.

That unease became a body of work. Muriithi developed the Tension Protocol, a five-stage framework for using strategic discomfort to force the growth that comfort quietly prevents, and built it into Spend or Stay Poor, his debut book. The ideas have since been taken up by professionals across East and West Africa looking to break out of stable, stuck lives.
