Amb. Philip Richard O. Owade

‘Between Law and Diplomacy: Chronicles of a Career Diplomat’ is a riveting story about a man who embodies the phrase, All things work together for good to them who love the Lord. It tells the story of an unassuming young man born and raised in a remote village near the mighty Lake Victoria in the then Siaya district who rises through the ranks of the Kenyan Diplomatic career to become a high-ranking diplomat. The book traces the author’s beginnings in a large, hard-working, polygamous family and how those beginnings eventually forged his character as an assertive and effective diplomat. The story contains many interesting characters beginning with the author’s mother, a born-again Christian whose prayers continue to shape his life long after she is gone. He talks of his experiences with lawyers, politicians, and diplomats, and how those experiences shaped some of the decisions that he made. The book delves into meetings with some of the famous world leader. It is the story of a nation as seen through the eyes of one who has been involved in its development. Though the book details the part Ambassador Owade played in the development of the nation of Kenya, it is also an allegory of his growth as a person.
