Description

When six-year-old Daniel loses both of his parents in a heartbreaking tragedy, his world is shattered. With no one else to care for him, he is taken in by his elderly grandmother, a poor widow living in a small rural village. Though she has little money and few possessions, she makes a silent promise: she will raise her grandson with enough love, discipline, and sacrifice to fill the void left by both his mother and father.
As Daniel grows, he faces poverty, bullying, loneliness, and the painful questions surrounding his parents’ deaths. Through every hardship, his grandmother becomes his provider, protector, teacher, counselor, and unwavering source of hope. She works tirelessly in the fields, skips meals so he can eat, sells vegetables to pay his school fees, and eventually sacrifices the family’s last piece of land so he can attend university. Under the shade of an old mugumo tree, she teaches him the values that shape his life—honesty, humility, forgiveness, perseverance, faith, and unconditional love.
When Daniel learns the devastating truth about his parents’ deaths, he loses his faith and briefly rebels against everything his grandmother taught him. But her patient forgiveness and steadfast love lead him back to the path she always believed he would choose. Inspired by her sacrifices, he works hard, graduates from university, and builds a successful career, determined to honor the woman who gave up everything for his future.

How The Mighty Fall by Jim Collins

Books, Business
$31.93 $26.33
Brief Summary Decline can be avoided. Decline can be detected. Decline can be reversed. Amidst the desolate landscape of fallen great companies, Jim Collins began to wonder: How do the mighty fall? Can decline be detected early and avoided? How far can a company fall before the path toward doom becomes inevitable and unshakable? How can companies reverse course? In How the Mighty Fall, Collins confronts these questions, offering leaders the well-founded hope that they can learn how to stave off decline and, if they find themselves falling, reverse their course. Collins' research project—more than four years in duration—uncovered five step-wise stages of decline: Stage 1: Hubris Born of Success Stage 2: Undisciplined Pursuit of More Stage 3: Denial of Risk and Peril Stage 4: Grasping for Salvation Stage 5: Capitulation to Irrelevance or Death By understanding these stages of decline, leaders can substantially reduce their chances of falling all the way to the bottom. Great companies can stumble, badly, and recover. Every institution, no matter how great, is vulnerable to decline. There is no law of nature that the most powerful will inevitably remain at the top. Anyone can fall and most eventually do. But, as Collins' research emphasizes, some companies do indeed recover—in some cases, coming back even stronger—even after having crashed into the depths of Stage 4. Decline, it turns out, is largely self-inflicted, and the path to recovery lies largely within our own hands. We are not imprisoned by our circumstances, our history, or even our staggering defeats along the way. As long as we never get entirely knocked out of the game, hope always remains. The mighty can fall, but they can often rise again"

The Murder House

Books, International Bestsellers
$10.97 $10.62
No. 7 Ocean Drive is a gorgeous, multi-million-dollar beachfront estate in the Hamptons, where money and privilege know no bounds. But its beautiful gothic exterior hides a horrific past: it was the scene of a series of depraved killings that have never been solved. Neglected, empty, and rumored to be cursed, it's known as the Murder House, and locals keep their distance. Detective Jenna Murphy used to consider herself a local, but she hasn't been back since she was a girl. Trying to escape her troubled past and rehabilitate a career on the rocks, the former New York City cop hardly expects her lush and wealthy surroundings to be a hotbed of grisly depravity. But when a Hollywood power broker and his mistress are found dead in the abandoned Murder House, the gruesome crime scene rivals anything Jenna experienced in Manhattan. And what at first seems like an open and shut case turns out to have as many shocking secrets as the Murder House itself, as Jenna quickly realizes that the mansion's history is much darker than even the town's most salacious gossips could have imagined. As more bodies surface, and the secret that Jenna has tried desperately to escape closes in on her, she must risk her own life to expose the truth--before the Murder House claims another victim.Full of the twists and turns that have made James Patterson the world's #1 bestselling writer, THE MURDER HOUSE is a chilling, page-turning story of murder, money, and revenge. Where are True Parents?

Parenting
$8.90 $8.20
In Where are True Parents?, Augustine Rugutt explores ways in which parenting determines children’s behaviour and character beyond formative years. In doing so, he associates society’s changing value system, social pressures and use of technology with parenting outcomes, some of which are unpalatable in the eyes of society. He asks whether parents are truly aware of the impact of their conduct and action in shaping the future of their children. A fundamental question is whether parents truly know their children. On the other hand, do children really understand their parents? Such understanding is essential for a sound foundation for society. He makes the irrefutable case that poorly parented children are likely to be poor parents themselves. He challenges parents to understand that parenting is a God-given responsibility. As such, parents owe it to the Maker and the future of society to play their role as parents guided by teachings from the Bible. Step by step advice, most of which is informed by his work with Church, is invaluable for today’s parent.

Breaking The Curse of Eve by Susan Wachira

Parenting
$7.50
This book is dedicated to believers in Christ who desire to raise children who can grow according to God’s will and purpose and fulfill their divine destiny. The book is intended to provide a sense of ‘urgent hope’ as well as give a good challenge to believers in the body of Christ. The author writes from a point of deep spiritual knowledge and personal encounter with God. She is persuaded that there is a hemorrhage of purpose in the lives of many of God’s children. Many encounter spiritual limitations, physical afflictions and even premature death and all these are traceable to the curse of sin. The text outlines the spiritual causes of infertility and barrenness that hinder the blessing of childbirth. She also identifies the root of human suffering that manifests right from conception of a child. She describes the forces that contend to cut short the lives of unborn babies through miscarriage, birth complications, neonatal deaths and even maternal deaths. The author provides proven spiritual mindsets and disciplines that can keep the enemy from interfering with a believer’s heritage of sexual fruitfulness and fertility. She draws the reader’s attention to the effects of misplaced sexual practices such as fornication, adultery and other sexual perversions and offers biblical formulas for purification of our sexual foundations. The book also examines the impact of inherited general cultures and practices that may affect the destiny of a child all the way to adulthood. She invites the Christian believer to be bold enough to make necessary spiritual injunctions which can alter the course of any evil cultural invocations. The author concludes by sharing wisdom on how to lay a foundation for raising children who will grow in God’s design and purpose. Her writing seeks to persuade the Christian believer to re-examine the blessing of God released in the Garden of Eden, to understand how sin interfered with that blessing, to deal with patterns of sin through salvation, aggressive watchful prayer and devotional life, and to usher in the Christian’s full entitlement. The book reveals the pathway to the full blessing of God manifesting through peace, health and divine prosperity according to God’s revealed word. The book speaks to young people who are entering into family life. It speaks to men and women who are daily dealing with spiritual attacks in the area of their reproductive health. It speaks to parents who are raising children amid interference from worldly patterns that seem to veer from the intended divine paths. It speaks to pastors and other spiritual caregivers who are daily seeking to impart believers for effective blessed living.

The Essential First Year

Books, Parenting
$15.87 $15.28
As many of us become parents at a later stage, when our adult lives are well established, the arrival of a baby brings an unpredictability that can be hard to cope with. Those who are used to managing their time in the workplace can be tempted to try to manage their infant in the same way. So-called "controlled crying" has been recommended by many recent childcare guides, but parents should be aware of the high cost of such methods to their baby. In The Essential First Year Penelope Leach shows parents how they can reach a harmonious balance between their baby's needs and their own. While babies and their needs have not changed, our lifestyles have, and Penelope Leach has written the perfect manual for busy 21st century parents, which spans from pregnancy to the child's first birthday. The book is a gentle, but timely reminder that the fundamental purpose of having children is to share happiness. The happier a baby is, the more parents will enjoy being with him or her; being responsive to one's baby does not mean that it has to be at personal expense - the happiness of parents and baby is inextricably intertwined. The Essential First Year is not just full of sensible, practical advice, it is backed by more than ten years of new research into infant development, especially in brain growth, which now confirms, for instance, just how much fathers matter to their infant's progress, how girls' and boys' brains are different at birth (and develop differently) and how helping a baby to be calm, contented, amused, and interested leads to optimum development of body and brain. Using such information, Penelope Leach shows parents how to deal with problems as well as how to prevent them. Every parent wants to do the best for their baby and for the child that the baby will become. The Essential First Year gives parents the knowledge and the tools to nurture and care for every aspect of their infant's life - to meet the baby's physical needs, to stimulate their intellectual development and ensure their emotional well-being - and most importantly, The Essential First Year helps parents to simply enjoy being parents. The Babywise Parent Directed Feeding concept has enough structure to bring security and order to your baby's world, yet enough flexibility to give mom freedom to respond to any need at any time. Of these breast-feeding mothers, 80% of them breast-feed exclusively without a formula complement. And while 70% of our mothers are still breast-feeding after six months, the national average encourage to follow demand feeding without any guidelines is only 20%. The mean average time of breast-feeding for PDF moms is 33 1/2 weeks, well above the national average. Over 50% of PDF mothers extend their breast-feeding toward and well into the first year.
