If you’re only going to read one personal finance book this year, make it ”𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲”. Daniel Lialo Kilong has written the kind of personal financial guide we desperately need more of. It’s clear, grounded, and refreshingly human.

The book is divided into three well-structured parts, each one sharpening your understanding of money and how to make it work for you. But what sets this book apart is the storytelling. Kilong combines real-life scenarios, personal reflections, and relatable examples into every chapter, making the lessons land with the kind of honesty that sticks.

Every chapter feels like sitting with someone who has been through the fire and come out wiser. And is now handing you the blueprint.

He goes deep on themes we often tiptoe around. Debt is handled with courage and clarity, replacing fear with a plan. Investment is demystified, finally made understandable without the jargon that freezes most people. Entrepreneurship is examined with honesty. It shows both the risk and the reward, the discipline and the possibility.

Every page nudges you to think, act, and get serious about your future without feeling overwhelmed. This is wisdom packaged in stories, lived experiences, and step-by-step guidance.

Reading this book shifted the way I see and handle money. I felt seen, guided, and challenged in the best way possible. And I want to pass that clarity and confidence to anyone who has ever felt stuck or uncertain about their financial path.

If you’ve ever said, ”I wish someone would just tell me what to do with my finances,” here you go. This is that book.

And if you’re curious enough to ask yourself, ”What are the three M’s of money?” Then it’s time.

Buy your copy from Nuria Bookstore or Hekaya Inscribers. Links are in the comments section.

Read it. Absorb it. Let it shift the way you see your finances.

I rarely come across a book that changes the way I think and feel about money but Strategy to Financial Stability did exactly that. From the very first chapter, I felt like Daniel Kilong was speaking directly to me, to my struggles, my fears and my silent dreams about living a better life. This book did not just teach me about finances; it has spoken to my soul.

Every page opened my eyes to how I have been handling money and how simple changes could completely transform my future. Daniel writes with so much honesty, wisdom and compassion that you feel guided not judged. You can tell that he has been through the same journey and now he is lighting the way for others to rise.

By the time I finished reading, I felt empowered, hopeful and ready to take control of my finances. I understood that financial stability isn’t about how much you earn but how intentionally you live. I laughed, I reflected and I even shed tears reading some of the personal stories and truths shared in the book.

If you are tired of feeling stuck financially or wondering why money always seems to slip away, please read this book. It is practical, relatable and deeply inspiring. Strategy to Financial Stability does not just change your financial habits, it changes your mindset, your attitude and your life.

Execution The Discipline of Getting Things Done by Larry Bossidy and Ram Charan

Books, Business
KShs4,000.00 KShs3,500.00
"Execution may very well be the best business book of the year, and one of the most useful to have come around in a long time. This smart and pithy book focuses on a simple though vexing challenge: How can the leaders of an organization exhort their people to deliver on the most important goals?....It's rare to find a book like this that blends smart practice with intelligent articulation of how to get things done. Do yourself a favor. Buy it." --The Boston Globe "Making all of the moving parts of an organization function smoothly together is just plain hard work. By describing how he has done it, Mr. Bossidy has come up with a valuable and practical management guide that is must-reading for everyone who cares about business." --The New York Times "If you want to be a CEO--or if you are a CEO and want to keep your job--read Execution and put its principles to work." --Michael Dell, chairman and CEO, Dell Computer Corp. "A how-to book for the can-do boss....If even half the corporations in America pondered their suggestions, the economy would be in much better shape. Moreover, Bossidy and Charan boast an impressive enough track record that anyone who wants to stay sharp at the helm will welcome their assistance." --BusinessWeek"

Good to Great by Jim Collins

Books, Business
KShs3,290.00 KShs3,090.00
The Challenge Built to Last, the defining management study of the nineties, showed how great companies triumph over time and how long-term sustained performance can be engineered into the DNA of an enterprise from the very beginning. But what about the company that is not born with great DNA? How can good companies, mediocre companies, even bad companies achieve enduring greatness? The Study For years, this question preyed on the mind of Jim Collins. Are there companies that defy gravity and convert long-term mediocrity or worse into long-term superiority? And if so, what are the universal distinguishing characteristics that cause a company to go from good to great? The Standards Using tough benchmarks, Collins and his research team identified a set of elite companies that made the leap to great results and sustained those results for at least fifteen years. How great? After the leap, the good-to-great companies generated cumulative stock returns that beat the general stock market by an average of seven times in fifteen years, better than twice the results delivered by a composite index of the world's greatest companies, including Coca-Cola, Intel, General Electric, and Merck. The Comparisons The research team contrasted the good-to-great companies with a carefully selected set of comparison companies that failed to make the leap from good to great. What was different? Why did one set of companies become truly great performers while the other set remained only good? Over five years, the team analyzed the histories of all twenty-eight companies in the study. After sifting through mountains of data and thousands of pages of interviews, Collins and his crew discovered the key determinants of greatness — why some companies make the leap and others don't. The Findings The findings of the Good to Great study will surprise many readers and shed light on virtually every area of management strategy and practice. The findings include: Level 5 Leaders: The research team was shocked to discover the type of leadership required to achieve greatness. The Hedgehog Concept (Simplicity within the Three Circles): To go from good to great requires transcending the curse of competence. A Culture of Discipline: When you combine a culture of discipline with an ethic of entrepreneurship, you get the magical alchemy of great results. Technology Accelerators: Good-to-great companies think differently about the role of technology. The Flywheel and the Doom Loop: Those who launch radical change programs and wrenching restructurings will almost certainly fail to make the leap. "Some of the key concepts discerned in the study,” comments Jim Collins, "fly in the face of our modern business culture and will, quite frankly, upset some people.” Perhaps, but who can afford to ignore these findings? Nudge by Richard H. Thaler and Cass R. Sunstein

Books, Business
KShs2,890.00 KShs2,500.00
Every day, we make decisions on topics ranging from personal investments to schools for our children to the meals we eat to the causes we champion. Unfortunately, we often choose poorly. The reason, the authors explain, is that, being human, we all are susceptible to various biases that can lead us to blunder. Our mistakes make us poorer and less healthy; we often make bad decisions involving education, personal finance, health care, mortgages and credit cards, the family, and even the planet itself. Thaler and Sunstein invite us to enter an alternative world, one that takes our humanness as a given. They show that by knowing how people think, we can design choice environments that make it easier for people to choose what is best for themselves, their families, and their society. Using colorful examples from the most important aspects of life, Thaler and Sunstein demonstrate how thoughtful "choice architecture” can be established to nudge us in beneficial directions without restricting freedom of choice. Nudge offers a unique new take—from neither the left nor the right—on many hot-button issues, for individuals and governments alike. This is one of the most engaging and provocative books to come along in many years.

Thrive by Arianna Huffington

Books, Business
KShs1,990.00 KShs1,790.00
Brief Summary In Thrive, Arianna Huffington makes an impassioned and compelling case for the need to redefine what it means to be successful in today's world. Arianna Huffington's personal wake-up call came in the form of a broken cheekbone and a nasty gash over her eye -- the result of a fall brought on by exhaustion and lack of sleep. As the cofounder and editor-in-chief of the Huffington Post Media Group -- one of the fastest growing media companies in the world -- celebrated as one of the world's most influential women, and gracing the covers of magazines, she was, by any traditional measure, extraordinarily successful. Yet as she found herself going from brain MRI to CAT scan to echocardiogram, to find out if there was any underlying medical problem beyond exhaustion, she wondered is this really what success feels like? As more and more people are coming to realize, there is far more to living a truly successful life than just earning a bigger salary and capturing a corner office. Our relentless pursuit of the two traditional metrics of success -- money and power -- has led to an epidemic of burnout and stress-related illnesses, and an erosion in the quality of our relationships, family life, and, ironically, our careers. In being connected to the world 24/7, we're losing our connection to what truly matters. Our current definition of success is, as Thrive shows, literally killing us. We need a new way forward. In a commencement address Arianna gave at Smith College in the spring of 2013, she likened our drive for money and power to two legs of a three-legged stool. They may hold us up temporarily, but sooner or later we're going to topple over. We need a third leg -- a third metric for defining success -- to truly thrive. That third metric, she writes in Thrive, includes our well-being, our ability to draw on our intuition and inner wisdom, our sense of wonder, and our capacity for compassion and giving. As Arianna points out, our eulogies celebrate our lives very differently from the way society defines success. They don't commemorate our long hours in the office, our promotions, or our sterling PowerPoint presentations as we relentlessly raced to climb up the career ladder. They are not about our resumes -- they are about cherished memories, shared adventures, small kindnesses and acts of generosity, lifelong passions, and the things that made us laugh. In this deeply personal book, Arianna talks candidly about her own challenges with managing time and prioritizing the demands of a career and raising two daughters -- of juggling business deadlines and family crises, a harried dance that led to her collapse and to her "aha moment." Drawing on the latest groundbreaking research and scientific findings in the fields of psychology, sports, sleep, and physiology that show the profound and transformative effects of meditation, mindfulness, unplugging, and giving, Arianna shows us the way to a revolution in our culture, our thinking, our workplace, and our lives.""" Start up Nation by Dan Senor and Saul Singer

Books, Business
KShs1,900.00 KShs1,690.00
START-UP NATION addresses the trillion dollar question: How is it that Israel-- a country of 7.1 million, only 60 years old, surrounded by enemies, in a constant state of war since its founding, with no natural resources-- produces more start-up companies than large, peaceful, and stable nations like Japan, China, India, Korea, Canada and the UK? With the savvy of foreign policy insiders, Senor and Singer examine the lessons of the country's adversity-driven culture, which flattens hierarchy and elevates informality-- all backed up by government policies focused on innovation. In a world where economies as diverse as Ireland, Singapore and Dubai have tried to re-create the "Israel effect", there are entrepreneurial lessons well worth noting. As America reboots its own economy and can-do spirit, there's never been a better time to look at this remarkable and resilient nation for some impressive, surprising clues." "

Egonomics

Books, Business
KShs1,295.00 KShs1,231.00
The Questions"Arrogant, self-centered, stubborn, " and "insecure" -- words that most people associate with ego. But in this original, eye-opening work, authors David Marcum and Steven Smith argue that the upside of ego is as powerful as the downside and answer questions about ego that have been a mystery to most people. In his landmark book, "Good to Great, " Jim Collins showed that one of two key traits defined leaders who transformed organizations from good to great: humility. But if humility is so powerful, why don't more of us have it? Why does ego allow us to reach good results but never great ones, unless balanced by humility? Why do we need ego to personally succeed, while having it often interferes with the success we pursue? The Answers Using five years of exhaustive research, Marcum and Smith provide compelling evidence and matter-of-fact answers on striking the balance between ego and humility to reach the next level of leadership. The authors include case studies to illustrate how ego subtly interferes with success but also how ego sparks the drive to achieve, the nerve to try something new, and the tenacity to conquer adversity. The Early Warning Signs We all have moments when ego costs us everything from an honest conversation to a job or promotion. Through cross-disciplinary research, egonomics reveals how to detect four early warning signs that ego is becoming a liability, including how: - being too competitive makes you less competitive - defending ideas turns into defending yourself - winning ideas can be halted by the creator's own intelligence and talent - desiring respect and recognition can interfere with success The Keys to Egonomic Health Three key principles keep ego healthy: - humility: striking the crucial balance between too much ego and not enough - curiosity: blending free thinking and discipline without bias - veracity: removing fear of giving or getting feedback to produce water-cooler honesty With a clear focus on elevating the way you do business, "egonomics" is a liberating approach to becoming a rare and respected leader. Think Or Sink

Books, Business
KShs995.00 KShs946.00
The instinctive response to any crisis or challenge is a predictable, hard-wired physiological reaction: the fight-or-flight response. The problem isn't the response itself, the problem is using it in situations that don't really warrant it. Moreover, when used too often this inappropriate stress response can have detrimental effects on both physical and mental health. By contrast, successful people and great leaders have learned to control their flight-or-flight reaction. They think for themselves, choosing empowering states of being instead of sinking into the prevailing negative state of their circumstances and the people around them. In "Think or Sink, " Gina Mollicone-Long shows readers how to gain control of their responses and produce powerful results. Rather than a book about what to think, it's a book about how to think. By learning how to make good decisions, readers are able to not only meet challenges head on, but to benefit from them as well. ISBN:2147483647 Author:Gina Mollicone-Long

Zero to One by Peter Thiel

Books, Business
Rated 5.00 out of 5
KShs2,000.00 KShs1,790.00
If you want to build a better future, you must believe in secrets. The great secret of our time is that there are still uncharted frontiers to explore and new inventions to create. In Zero to One , legendary entrepreneur and investor Peter Thiel shows how we can find singular ways to create those new things. Thiel begins with the contrarian premise that we live in an age of technological stagnation, even if we’re too distracted by shiny mobile devices to notice. Information technology has improved rapidly, but there is no reason why progress should be limited to computers or Silicon Valley. Progress can be achieved in any industry or area of business. It comes from the most important skill that every leader must master: learning to think for yourself. Doing what someone else already knows how to do takes the world from 1 to n, adding more of something familiar. But when you do something new, you go from 0 to 1. The next Bill Gates will not build an operating system. The next Larry Page or Sergey Brin won’t make a search engine. Tomorrow’s champions will not win by competing ruthlessly in today’s marketplace. They will escape competition altogether, because their businesses will be unique. Zero to One presents at once an optimistic view of the future of progress in America and a new way of thinking about innovation: it starts by learning to ask the questions that lead you to find value in unexpected places.

Accidental Empires

Books, Business
KShs1,495.00 KShs1,421.00
Computer manufacturing is--after cars, energy production and illegal drugs--the largest industry in the world, and it's one of the last great success stories in American business. Accidental Empires is the trenchant, vastly readable history of that industry, focusing as much on the astoundingly odd personalities at its core--Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Mitch Kapor, etc. and the hacker culture they spawned as it does on the remarkable technology they created. Cringely reveals the manias and foibles of these men (they are always men) with deadpan hilarity and cogently demonstrates how their neuroses have shaped the computer business. But Cringely gives us much more than high-tech voyeurism and insider gossip. From the birth of the transistor to the mid-life crisis of the computer industry, he spins a sweeping, uniquely American saga of creativity and ego that is at once uproarious, shocking and inspiring.
