In THE FIGHT FOR ORDER, richly adorned with piercing honesty, Justin Bedan Muturi uses his searing gift of storytelling to deliver an unflinching exposé about Kenya’s kleptocratic circus, the petty political theatre and the plundering ineptitude in government that keeps holding the country back.
With over four decades in public service, as the only Kenyan to serve in the Judiciary, in opposition politics, and as the Speaker of the National Assembly, the Attorney General of Kenya, and Cabinet Secretary, Muturi gives a raw blistering insider portrait exposing the inner workings of a state captured by obsessive grasping greed, driven by visionless small-minded hustle, and crippled by crude, contemptuous impunity.
He was part of the system until it chewed him up, spat him out, and left him with nothing but the piercing wisdom of a truthful pen.
Now he rips back the curtain with a sharp-edged confession, a reckoning with power and a masterclass in why values,
institutions, and the rule of law still matter in a country where
politics kills them first.
“.Personal, raw, and exhilarating book dripping with convivial banter and bis trademark honesty.

Beatrice Kitimo –
One line after another, this book quietly dismantles the myths we tell ourselves about clean politics and neutral institutions. It doesn’t ask you to be cynical, just honest.
Dr Ochieng –
A necessary, unsettling, and oddly hopeful book. Hopeful because once you see the machinery laid bare, you realise change is about choices.
Ogot Maranda –
I wish I had read this before my internship in a government office. So many small details in the book echo things I saw but didn’t fully understand at the time. I now refer to particular chapters when talking about ‘how things are done’ versus how they should be.
Malachi Nanok –
This is the political education the average citizen never gets. Awesome storytelling.
Darius –
Excellent job! Superbly written, excellent editing, great book design.
This man has set standards for biography writing in Kenya.
Easily my 2025 political book of the year!
Ojwang’ Ndege Esq. –
This book gave me the political education that school never did. It shows how a signature here, a meeting there, and a ‘small’ compromise can alter the lives of millions. The storytelling is unhurried but precise, and the impact sneaks up on you. You watch as institutions bend, laws are treated like suggestions, and public good is quietly traded away. When I was done, the only thing that felt right was to put it on Easy Coach and send it to my father in the village. I see them quote it in our village WhatsApp group every time Riggy G speaks about some scandal. Muturi did the country a favour. And yet, some idiots still shout TUTAM! They should get a copy before opening their mouths.
Mueni Wanza –
This book will make you rethink every press conference you’ve ever watched. Behind each polished statement, you start to imagine the off-record conversations Muturi describes so clearly, the bargaining, the threats, the casual way billions are discussed like loose change. Excellent book.
Prof Smith –
I’ve studied Kenyan governance for years, but this book still managed to shock me, because the stories are so specific, so plausible, so recognisable.
Rahma Farah –
I read a chapter in a matatu and had to stop, stare out of the window, and breathe. The calm way Muturi describes reckless decisions is more disturbing.
SIKO SAWA.
You can’t be the same after reading it.
Waceke Mwihaki –
As a political science student, I wish this had been on our reading list. It brings to life the theories we discuss in class: elite capture, state weakness, informal networks. Kudos to the former Speaker and AG and Minister. Only him could write such a tome.
Marcus Likalama –
Some books make noise; this one makes sense. JB patiently connects high-level intrigue to the frustrations we live with every day, from stalled projects to vanishing funds. Halfway through, I caught myself wishing a bold billionaire would buy a copy for every Kenyan ndio kila mtu aone vile tunachezwa na system ya ufala.
Lemaiyan –
If donors and governance NGOs are serious about accountability, this is the one book they should quietly buy for every elected leader in Kenya. And even voters. It should be required reading!
Levi Kyalo –
This is the kind of book you finish and immediately think, ‘People need to read this.’ It explains in detail how a handful of people can tilt an entire country’s destiny. I sent my copy to my brother with a note: ‘Now you’ll understand why fuel, food, and school fees feel like they’re fighting us.’ He read it in two days and just replied, ‘So this is how they’ve been playing us all along.” WANTAM is real!
Makau S S –
Forget the polite handshake politics we see on TV; this book takes you to the backrooms where the real games were played. JB paints a picture of the KANU era that is frantic and unpolished. Wild, wild, wild, wild things. Hats off to him for telling the story. As a Gen Z, I didn’t know things were this bad in KANU days. Still reading, and completely in love with the writing!
Mike Kipkorir –
As a governance researcher, I can confidently say that this is one of those quiet books that refuses to let you go. It burns with truth. Imagine the president, his deputy, and key ministers, sitting by a fire at night talking loosely about billions to buy PRIVATE land, and on the side, billionaires calling the Attorney General to approve the transaction. Yet, the money for the land is not even in the budget, the land had not been valued and yet there was a figure (!!) and somehow, the transaction went through!
Reading this, you begin to see why life feels so heavy for ordinary Kenyans. Muturi doesn’t rant. He doesn’t point fingers. He simply shows you how things really work, and once you’ve seen it, you can’t unsee it.
Alfarouk Maalim –
Absolutely gripping! I was so moved by its depth and truth that I bought a copy for every one of my classmates in our political science course. Page after page, it lays bare the inner workings of Kenya’s legislative politics, the power struggles, the lingering grip of neocolonial influence, and the relentless manoeuvring of foreign interests desperate to control our political destiny.
What struck me most is how boldly it exposes the realpolitik behind elections: the secret deals, the money trails, and the corruption that decides candidates long before the public ever votes. It’s raw, fearless, and deeply relevant. It will change how you see power, politics, and the forces shaping our democracy.
