Khaki in the Sun

Poetry
KShs2,500.00
ABOUT THE BOOK Khaki in the sun is a poetic expression of the Nigerian experience. It shines a light on what we go through as a people, the battles we face daily in our individual capacity, as citizens living in a society where everyone lives on survival mode. The anthology does not only seek to tell, but to show by means of photography, where we currently stand, and how we fashion for ourselves tiny bits of joy amidst the chaos that is our reality. The collection employs the use of storytelling and pictures to show a vivid nature of life as it is within Nigeria, not what it ought to be, or what it can be - just what it is and how we survive through it.

The Lake Goddess

African Interest
KShs2,500.00
The Lake Goddess came to be Flora Nwapa's last novel, yet possibly her most important one, as it restores African culture and spirituality. "Nwapa's message is clear: she-Ona/Ogbuide/woman-may have many children, but she also independently succeeds in her own life, and she is a source of healing and inspiration to all human beings suffering from the ills and madness of modern society worldwide. The goddess whom Nwapa invoked finally reemerges in her original glory in The Lake Goddess to brighten women's path. Her powers and mysteries shine, once again, despite the onslaught of foreign powers and their religions, when Nwapa accounts for the destructive forces of globalization and for attempts to push Uhammiri's children into the abyss of derangement, to rob the deity of her benevolence, and to deny her people both children and wealth. Yet, when the lake goddess finally appears with her image fully restored in Nwapa's last novel, the messenger, who invoked her, has left the land, crossed the river, and joined her ancestors to live on.

In the beautiful cities of Pachuca, a story unfolds in a big hacienda, filled with history and secrets. “The Hacienda of Jesus García of Pachuca,” takes you into a world where love, power, and the past are all mixed up in a fascinating tale. Catalina, a woman with beauty and big dreams, grows up in a tough situation, and her ambitions lead her to marry Jesus García. But ambitions are like hunger—they never really go away. Her teenage desire to be with an African man comes back when she meets Flomo. Flomo is a young man from Liberia, and he's torn between his dreams and his love for Teta. Should he give in to Catalina's advances, hoping it'll help him reach his goals, or stay true to Teta back in Liberia? It's a tough choice, but Catalina, who's very intriguing, makes him give in, right there in Jesus García's hacienda. Jesus García is a Mezcal farmer who owns a hacienda passed down from his father. He's a dreamer and falls in love with Catalina quickly. But he realizes Catalina's dreams are too big for him, and he feels betrayed. This sets the stage for his revenge. In the walls of the hacienda, secrets come out, and the characters face the weight of their family's past. "The Hacienda of Jesus García" explores a place where what happened before affects what's happening now, and the characters have to deal with their wants, dreams, and the history of the García family. Here is the retelling of the Biblical story of Potiphar’s wife and Joseph, told elegantly in the most lush language.

A Season of Blood: Poems from Kenyan Prisons by Maina wa Kinyatti

Books, International Bestsellers, Kenya Fiction, Poetry
KShs1,200.00 KShs990.00
The conditions that prisoners in Kenya endure are extremely barbaric. Every morning at 5 a.m., male prisoners are ordered out of the cells stark naked for internal body searches. The guards search their mouths and armpits, ears and nostrils. They pull, twist and squeeze their genitals. They order the prisoners to face the walls with their legs spread apart to examine their anuses for concealed weapons, money and other contraband. They use sharp sticks to probe the prisoner's rectums. In a sense, the guards are more interested in prisoners' buttocks than in the search. They make sexual remarks such as, "Look at this one, his buttocks are two mountains, it is difficult to mount him...and look at this one, his arsehole is sharped like a woman's vagina...This one has a soft arse like his mother..." After the brutal searches, the prisoners are beaten and kicked. These monstrous acts are repeated every morning. It is a humiliating and degrading. Maina was arrested on June 2, 1982 by dictator Moi's regime for the crime of thought. He was imprisoned for six years with hard labor. Despite the brutal isolation and censorship, physical and psychological torture, Maina made friends with a few prison guards who supplied him writing material and smuggled everything g he wrote out of prison and took it to Mumbi, his wife. The poems in this text were part of the written material smuggled out of prison. The themes of poems express the horrors of imprisonment, the brutality and viciousness of the Kenyan authoritarian regime, the intensification of the struggle for democracy.

The joys of love are compacted in the mystery behind the history love has written since time immemorial, it continues to write and shall write even in days to come. When that one single day the lover wakes and feels fluttering like a butterfly, dancing like a dervish, butterflies rioting in them thence they commit the crimes. When love ends and life has to continue, the lover commits the crimes. Crimes of love, Holy Crimes, that the lover gets away with, and shall get away with.

Holy Innocence (Poetry) by Elove Poetry

Poetry
KShs400.00 KShs300.00
Brief Summary Holy Innocence is a collection of innocent musings on love, the things lovers do innocently moved by love, the emotion that makes the mind stop functioning the minute one falls helpless in to the abysmal abyss of love. May it be teen hominess, school-boy/girl crush on someone, secret admiration, harmless flirtation, infatuation, or lust for someone already taken - love does this innocently, just to fulfill the longing of a heart that is helplessly in love for which words can't describe. Holy Innocence is sensational, love poems to the max. Every girl should read this. Triond.com
