Finally, this book is out in print. It’s been tonnes of work here and there to polish it to a comprehensible piece. It’s been baby steps right from the first day we started working, a one-step at a time scenario. I feel that so many people hide in the shadows of who they really are. They really need to surface and bring out their authentic selves to the world. If people were not hiding and wearing facades, then I should be seeing more of this kind of book.

I literally got perched on my seat edges reading this story. At some point, I was mad about the occurrences. The setting and protagonist’s actions overwhelmed me. I was totally anticipating of a happy ending, a remedy. But then I knew this was just a reflection of a doomed society and not just the narrator’s world. It is a derivative of the real world vividly told by someone who did not flinch from fear of criticism and or judgment. She was not looking to lie or sugarcoat to live with the person in the mirror. She threw caution out of the window and came out flaunting her authentic self. She did not try to peel out of her skin because people might judge her. The cliffhangers in the story got me anticipating for the next line of action in this story. I still hope there would be a book 2.

Synopsis

The protagonist introduces the reader to the world of a little girl growing up with her parents in the village of Othaya in the interior of colonial Kenya. Even though her parents were still around, they could not satisfactorily cater to her emotional needs, and this crumbled her life and stifled her future.

Unwanted pregnancy in her teenage years cripples her life. With sheer grit, she completes high school. In the roller coaster of life, she finds herself at crossroads in the quest to cater to her family’s needs due to her selfless nature. She ends up in the streets and engages herself in commercial sex that was never forthcoming. The hand-to-mouth life was not eliminating her family’s devastating situation. She gets trapped in a web of illicit sex in a quest to acquire dirty monies and even graduates to drugging her victims to rob them. It lands her in hot soup, and she finds herself in prison.

Her newfound lover sacrifices himself to save her from those predicaments. He breaks the law when he engages in a robbery with violence spree where he is nabbed and convicted for robbery with violence.

The narration revolves around a girl’s life that turns dramatic due to bottled trauma and devastating home situations caused by poverty and neglect. It is a clear account of how someone trapped in the same web of victim mentality can switch to masterpiece mentality once and for all through prayers and submission of oneself to God. The theme in this narration includes poverty, love, betrayal, and family. Diverse topics from the bible have been delved into and incorporated into this story as derivatives that invoke fundamental thematic aspects.

Does the protagonist rise above it?

Description

Being the First born girl in my family came with responsibilities, the responsibilities that led me to want to take care of my siblings, Being born in a culture that says you have to care and love others First, i was always finding myself trying to help, improve and change my family conditions, for me I was always putting the needs of others First, being an empath that iam , I felt like it’s my obligations to carry other people burdens First. Atleast that’s what I found being done, I remember even my mum used to do the same, when serving the food, she would always serve us as her children while she forgot herself, not knowing this is a slavery mentality, this is not love. I was born in a family of 9 , and as a first girl I was the eyes of my mother, one thing led to another and I found myself in night clubs drugging men and robbing them all of their belongings .

This book displays the life of a girl who lived her life inside slavery mentality/victim mentality, she thought that only money can change her life and that of her entire family, she toiled in vain, she struggled with pain, addictions ,depression and life in prison. This book will take you through her memory lane, how she wrestled with sin, herself and God, and in the process God helped her discover her truest self, her gifts, creativity and and talents. The most precious jewel she have acquired during her walk with God is being able to trust God, in her most traumatising times, the peace, joy and the Faith she have achieved that none can take away from her and this is a good example that God is with us even in the deep pits , And that everything is working for good for those who are called according to the purpose of God.

This is a testimony that God can break all the kinds of chains that are binding us, the chain of poverty, the chain of sin, the chain of mental slavery like greed, bitterness, fear, anxiety or even doubts. God can can take away the pain, God can be able to change our mind set, God can break the chain of all kinds of addictions and He can be able to reveal to us who we really are in Him. The master piece that we have been all along. Because in Genesis He gave us authority , power and dominion to take care, to take responsibility, to command our days, to create and Even manage everything He have Created.

I believe everyone that will lead this book will never be the same again. God bless you.

Screw It, Let’s Do It Expanded

Books, Self Help & Motivation
KShs1,495.00 KShs1,421.00
Throughout my life I have achieved many remarkable things. In Screw It, Let's Do It, I will share with you my ideas and the secrets of my success, but not simply because I hope they'll help you achieve your individual goals. Today we are increasingly aware of the effects of our actions on the environment, and I strongly believe that we each have a responsibility, as individuals and organisations, to do no harm. I will draw on Gaia Capitalism to explain why we need to take stock of how we may be damaging the environment, and why it is up to big companies like Virgin to lead the way in a more holistic approach to business. In Screw It, Let's Do It I'll be looking forwards to the future. A lot has changed since I founded Virgin in 1968, and I'll explain how I intend to take my business and my ideas to the next level and the new and exciting areas - such as launching Virgin Fuels - into which Virgin is currently moving. But I have also brought together all the important lessons, good advice and inspirational adages that have helped me along the road to success. Ironically, I have never been one to do things by the book, but I have been inspired and influenced by many remarkable people. I hope that you too might find a little inspiration between these pages." ISBN:753511497 Author:Richard Branson

Why Nations Fail by Daron Acemoglu and James A. Robinson

Books, Governance
KShs3,000.00 KShs2,690.00
Brilliant and engagingly written, Why Nations Fail answers the question that has stumped the experts for centuries: Why are some nations rich and others poor, divided by wealth and poverty, health and sickness, food and famine? Is it culture, the weather, geography? Perhaps ignorance of what the right policies are? Simply, no. None of these factors is either definitive or destiny. Otherwise, how to explain why Botswana has become one of the fastest growing countries in the world, while other African nations, such as Zimbabwe, the Congo, and Sierra Leone, are mired in poverty and violence? Daron Acemoglu and James Robinson conclusively show that it is man-made political and economic institutions that underlie economic success (or lack of it). Korea, to take just one of their fascinating examples, is a remarkably homogeneous nation, yet the people of North Korea are among the poorest on earth while their brothers and sisters in South Korea are among the richest. The south forged a society that created incentives, rewarded innovation, and allowed everyone to participate in economic opportunities. The economic success thus spurred was sustained because the government became accountable and responsive to citizens and the great mass of people. Sadly, the people of the north have endured decades of famine, political repression, and very different economic institutions—with no end in sight. The differences between the Koreas is due to the politics that created these completely different institutional trajectories. Based on fifteen years of original research Acemoglu and Robinson marshall extraordinary historical evidence from the Roman Empire, the Mayan city-states, medieval Venice, the Soviet Union, Latin America, England, Europe, the United States, and Africa to build a new theory of political economy with great relevance for the big questions of today, including: - China has built an authoritarian growth machine. Will it continue to grow at such high speed and overwhelm the West? - Are America’s best days behind it? Are we moving from a virtuous circle in which efforts by elites to aggrandize power are resisted to a vicious one that enriches and empowers a small minority? - What is the most effective way to help move billions of people from the rut of poverty to prosperity? More philanthropy from the wealthy nations of the West? Or learning the hard-won lessons of Acemoglu and Robinson’s breakthrough ideas on the interplay between inclusive political and economic institutions? Why Nations Fail will change the way you look at—and understand—the world."
