WE WERE CREATED TO OVERCOME

God created us to be fruitful and to rule. When we are confronted with ups and downs, health struggles, when life weighs us down, we have what it takes to overcome. In her inspiring first book, YOU WILL OVERCOME! An exceptional Story of Determination Conquering All, Purity Museo shares a personal story of resilience and life without limitations. This book will help readers believe bigger and not be guided by their backgrounds. Museo’s inspiring message focuses mainly on: Daring to Take Risks, Staying on Course, getting out of your comfort zone and believing bigger.

YOU WILL OVERCOME challenges readers not to give you on their dreams and ambitions. To trust the process, put in the hard work and be ready for VICTORY. It is based on true story and experiences.
John 1:5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

This book‘s title is inspired by my personal journey. I look at my story as that of From Grass to Grace. I lost my mom, who was raising us single-handedly in 2009. My twin and I were only 17 years old. I was in form 3. There was no hope left for me. My mom was the only family‘s bread winner then. I was sure I was going to join the list of girls in our area that had dropped out of school for lack of school fees.

Who was going to pay my school fees? At that time, boys were given priority when it came to matters education. I knew if there was going to be any opportunity to continue with studies, it was going to favor my brother. A few relatives were already helping me secure a job as a house girl in the city. I was left with my grandparents who also depended on my mom.

All this was understandable. I had completed my form three exams when mom died. My dream of joining University was almost coming to pass. I had one more academic year left before i could join University. It was my dream to become a Television News Anchor and from the little research I had done, one needed to pursue a course in Journalism at a University level before appearing on TV.

I asked God a lot of Questions when mom died. Why had He taken away our only hope? Must all people in our family be born and die poor! No one had pursued education up to university level in our family. Bitterness had taken control of me. I was angry with God. Why did He have to choose my family to be poor! I hated village life. I hated the things I saw there. I hated seeing girls being married off and their dreams shuttered. I wanted to change the story of my family and that of our village.

I knew that was only going to be possible through education. I was among few girls in our village who had successfully joined high school. Majority either got pregnant before or after finishing primary education while others were married off as soon as they cleared primary school. It was not a big deal then. It was an achievement for any family to have their daughter finish their primary education and get married. However, a few parents had chosen a different path. My mom was among them. She was determined to ensure I achieved my dreams. She did not get the opportunity to proceed beyond primary level.

And now, my dream was now being shuttered. Part of the reason I worked hard in school was to make my mom proud and happy. I had to come to terms with the fact that mom had gone to be with the Lord. I decided to drop the ̳mama‘s girl tag and have a more fighting spirit. Being a last born, I was my mom‘s favorite baby. I would get what I want when I needed it.

Though we lived far from each other, she always got in touch. She lived in Mombasa where she worked as we stayed in the village with our grandparents. The journey has been the toughest since she died, but ooh thanks be to God I am here today. I refer to my story as An Exceptional Story of Determination Conquering All. Hope it will inspire, change your life‘s perspective and above help you get to your destiny. I am not where I want to be yet, but what the Lord began in me, He will surely accomplish it. I am only getting started.

Blue Horizon by Wilbur Smith

Books, Fiction and Non Fiction
KShs1,590.00 KShs1,390.00
The New York Times bestselling author and one of the greatest adventure writers of our time returns with a pulse-pounding tale of danger, courage, and suspense. Tom Courtney and his brother Dorian battled both vicious enemies and nature itself on the high seas, finally reaching the Cape of Good Hope to start life afresh. Now, half a generation later, they are successful and contented: merchants and family men, prospering on the very edge of an immense and beautiful continent, Africa. In the tradition of Wilbur Smith's earlier bestseller, Monsoon, this spellbinding new novel introduces the next generation of Courtneys. They are out to stake their claim in Southern Africa, traveling along the infamous "Robbers' Road." It is a journey both exciting and hazardous---one that takes them through the untouched wilderness of a beautiful land filled with warring tribes and wild animals. But the most dangerous predators of all are other Europeans, crazed by greed, jealousy, and lust, and determined to destroy utterly all members of the Courtney clan. This quest for vengeance results in a desperate chase---both on land and sea---that is one of the most extraordinary in modern literature. Blue Horizon is a truly great adventure story, told by a master novelist at the height of his powers.

The Logic of Life by Tim Harford

Books, Self Help & Motivation
KShs1,299.00 KShs1,235.00
Brief Summary Life sometimes seems illogical. Individuals do strange things: take drugs, have unprotected sex, mug each other. Love seems irrational, and so does divorce. On a larger scale, life seems no fairer or easier to fathom: Why do some neighborhoods thrive and others become ghettos? Why is racism so persistent? Why your idiot boss is paid a fortune for sitting behind a mahogany altar? Thorny questions and you might be surprised to hear the answers coming from an economist. But Tim Harford, award-winning journalist and author of the bestseller The Undercover Economist, likes to spring surprises. In this deftly reasoned book, Harford argues that life is logical after all. Under the surface of everyday insanity, hidden incentives are at work, and Harford shows these incentives emerging in the most unlikely places. Using tools ranging from animal experiments to supercomputer simulations, an ambitious new breed of economist is trying to unlock the secrets of society. The Logic of Life is the first book to map out the astonishing insights and frustrating blind spots of this new economics in a way that anyone can enjoy. The Logic of Life presents an X-ray image of human life, stripping away the surface to show us a picture that is revealing, enthralling, and sometimes disturbing. The stories that emerge are not about data or equations but about people: the athlete who survived a shocking murder attempt, the computer geek who beat the hard-bitten poker pros, the economist who defied Henry Kissinger and faked an invasion of Berlin, the king who tried to buy off a revolution. Once you have read this quotable and addictive book, life will never look the same again. ISBN:9781400066421 Author:Tim Harford

Ideaship How to Get Ideas Flowing in Your Workplace

Books, Business
KShs1,799.00 KShs1,710.00
Brief Summary Innovative, original ideas are a company's most powerful competitive advantage. Nathan Mhyrvold, former chief technology officer at Microsoft, has said that a great employee is worth 1,000 times more than an average one simply because of his or her ideas. In Ideaship, the sequel to his bestselling book, how to Get Ideas, Jack Foster shifts from how individuals spark their new ideas to how to unleash the creative genius of an entire organization. To create an idea-prone workforce, Foster proposes a totally new concept of leadership: "ideaship." Leaders shouldn't be spending their time obsessing over profits or sales or quality or service. Instead, they should devote most of their energies to making the office a place where creative ideas flow, where the workforce truly believes in its ability to brilliantly solve any problem put before it. Above all, where it's fun to work. With energy and humor, Foster draws on over thirty-five years as creative director of major advertising agencies-organizations whose only purpose is to constantly generate ideas-to offer dozens of fun, fast, often surprising nuggets of practical advice on how to create an environment where innovation and fresh thinking thrive. He reveals why you should only hire people you like, insist employees take vacations whether they want to or not, why efficiency is sometimes inefficient, and how sometimes you can accomplish more by playing the fool instead of the capital L "Leader." Ideaship spells out proven ways to encourage creativity, simply and clearly and cogently, without a lot of charts and graphs and formulas and acronyms and statistics and fillers. It flips traditional leadership on its head and shows how simple acts of compassion, trust, and generosity of spirit, as well as some seemingly zany actions, can unleash unexpected, vital bursts of creativity. Indians in Kenya: The Politics of Diaspora by Sana Aiyar

Books, International Bestsellers, Self Help & Motivation
KShs10,000.00 KShs8,190.00
Brief Summary Working as merchants, skilled tradesmen, clerks, lawyers, and journalists, Indians formed the economic and administrative middle class in colonial Kenya. In general, they were wealthier than Africans, but were denied the political and economic privileges that Europeans enjoyed. Moreover, despite their relative prosperity, Indians were precariously positioned in Kenya. Africans usually viewed them as outsiders, and Europeans largely considered them subservient. Indians demanded recognition on their own terms. Indians in Kenya chronicles the competing, often contradictory, strategies by which the South Asian diaspora sought a political voice in Kenya from the beginning of colonial rule in the late 1890s to independence in the 1960s. Indians’ intellectual, economic, and political connections with South Asia shaped their understanding of their lives in Kenya. Sana Aiyar investigates how the many strands of Indians’ diasporic identity influenced Kenya’s political leadership, from claiming partnership with Europeans in their mission to colonize and “civilize” East Africa to successful collaborations with Africans to battle for racial equality, including during the Mau Mau Rebellion. She also explores how the hierarchical structures of colonial governance, the material inequalities between Indians and Africans, and the racialized political discourses that flourished in both colonial and postcolonial Kenya limited the success of alliances across racial and class lines. Aiyar demonstrates that only by examining the ties that bound Indians to worlds on both sides of the Indian Ocean can we understand how Kenya came to terms with its South Asian minority.
