THE LIES THAT LIED TO ME
A Memoir of Love, Ego, Betrayal, Accountability, and Rebuilding
At forty-six, I have learned that a man can survive almost anything—gunfire, chaos, betrayal, and the crushing weight of public failure—except the truth he refuses to face.
Today, I live far from where my journey began, working as a security supervisor. I am stable. I am working. I am quietly rebuilding the ruins. In many ways, I am healthier today than I have been in decades. But there was a time, not so long ago, when the darkness was so dense I was not sure I would ever find my way back to the man I used to be.
If I had to summarize my forty-six years on this earth in a single breath, I would tell you the plain, unvarnished truth:
I have been to hell and back.
My footprint stretches across a landscape that sounds more like a cinematic thriller than a quiet human life. I have worn the uniform of the Kenya Police Force. I have walked the high-stakes, dust-choked perimeter of international security operations in Iraq. I have navigated the ruthless waters of private security, built businesses from the ground up as an entrepreneur, and tasted the intoxication of wealth and respect. I have known deep love, sacred vows, fatherhood, bitter betrayal, infidelity, messy divorces, financial collapse, debilitating depression, psychiatric hospitalization, and, ultimately, the slow, agonizing ascent toward self-discovery.
It has been a life that often feels less like a biography and more like a blockbuster movie. Except there was no director calling the shots. There were no stunt doubles to take the hard hits. There was no script to predict the ending. And when the scenes became unbearable, when the pain cut so deep I could barely breathe, there was no opportunity to shout, “Cut!”
I lived every single frame. I caused many of the fires. And I lost people I loved more than life itself because I was too blind to see the torch in my own hand.

Description

I am writing this because somewhere right now, a man is reading these words while actively lying to the woman who loves him. Somewhere, a man is convincing himself that he is too smart to get caught, that his secret life won’t catch up to him, or that he can fix tomorrow what he is destroying today.

Perhaps someone will see their reflection in my scars before their own home burns to the ground. Perhaps someone will realize that self-awareness delayed is simply consequences multiplied.

American Sniper

Books, AutoBiography
KShs1,990.00 KShs1,590.00
From 1999 to 2009, U.S. Navy SEAL Chris Kyle recorded the most career sniper kills in United States military history. His fellow American warriors, whom he protected with deadly precision from rooftops and stealth positions during the Iraq War, called him "The Legend”; meanwhile, the enemy feared him so much they named him al-Shaitan ("the devil”) and placed a bounty on his head. Kyle, who was tragically killed in 2013, writes honestly about the pain of war—including the deaths of two close SEAL teammates—and in moving first-person passages throughout, his wife, Taya, speaks openly about the strains of war on their family, as well as on Chris. Gripping and unforgettable, Kyle’s masterful account of his extraordinary battlefield experiences ranks as one of the great war memoirs of all time. ISBN:2147483647 Author:Chris Kyle

Sweet Revenge

Books, AutoBiography
KShs995.00 KShs946.00
For this definitive biography, acclaimed journalist and bestselling author Tom Bower was granted unprecedented access to Simon Cowell and those around him—and the result is a fascinating multilayered portrait of one of the world’s most intriguing television personalities ever to dominate the music industry. Simon Cowell has made an international name for himself as the no-holds-barred judge on the television phenomenon American Idol. He’s been called mean, arrogant, brash, and unapologetic, but his stinging barbs and smug personality have also earned him cheers from fans, as well as millions of dollars, a string of exotic beauties, and industry clout to develop his own projects. But Cowell’s true reward is revenge. Sweet Revenge is the ultimate insider’s account of Simon Cowell’s rise to fame—even as others plotted his downfall—from his cheeky exploits as a British school lad to his failures as a frustrated young music exec in London to his explosive rivalry with Simon Fuller over the genesis of the Idol franchise to the PR disaster that nearly sunk his wildly successful show The X Factor. Conducting more than 150 interviews with industry power players, Cowell’s inner circle, and Cowell himself on a private jet, chartered yacht, at his L.A. home, and on the studio lot, Tom Bower pulls back the curtain on a man who is at once insecure, ambitious, easily bored, vain, needy, and driven, a man who will go to any limit to secure his success. Cowell is also revealed as a loyal friend and loving son. His father, to whom Cowell was particularly close, became his most trusted adviser and mentor. ISBN:2147483647 Author:Tom Bower

Rated 4.00 out of 5
KShs1,590.00 KShs1,390.00
A Memoir by the Youngest Recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize. "I come from a country that was created at midnight. When I almost died it was just after midday." When the Taliban took control of the Swat Valley in Pakistan, one girl spoke out. Malala Yousafzai refused to be silenced and fought for her right to an education. On Tuesday, October 9, 2012, when she was fifteen, she almost paid the ultimate price. She was shot in the head at point-blank range while riding the bus home from school, and few expected her to survive. Instead, Malala's miraculous recovery has taken her on an extraordinary journey from a remote valley in northern Pakistan to the halls of the United Nations in New York. At sixteen, she became a global symbol of peaceful protest and the youngest nominee ever for the Nobel Peace Prize. I AM MALALA is the remarkable tale of a family uprooted by global terrorism, of the fight for girls' education, of a father who, himself a school owner, championed and encouraged his daughter to write and attend school, and of brave parents who have a fierce love for their daughter in a society that prizes sons. I AM MALALA will make you believe in the power of one person's voice to inspire change in the world.

Suárez

Books, AutoBiography
KShs895.00 KShs851.00
Bestselling soccer biographer Luca Caioli tackles his most controversial subject yet—Barcelona's record signing of Luis Suárez. When in late September 2013 Suárez, a Liverpool player at the time, returned from a landmark ten-match ban for biting an opponent, one in a long line of high-profile misdemeanors, it seemed unlikely that he would ever win over his critics. In the months that followed, he scored an astonishing thirty-one times, propelling Liverpool back into the Champions League following a four-year absence. The World Cup in Brazil followed, but Uruguay's Suárez saw his action-packed tournament curtailed after just two games, two goals, and one moment of madness. ISBN:2147483647 Author:Luca Caioli

Twin Ambitions

Books, AutoBiography
KShs1,495.00 KShs1,421.00
4 August, 2012. Super Saturday. On the most electric night in the history of British sport, Mo Farah braved the pain and punishment to seize Olympic gold in the 10,000m - and in the process went from being a talented athlete to a national treasure. Seven days later, Mo seized his second gold at the 5000m to go where no British distance runner has gone before. Records have tumbled before him: European track records at 1500m, 5000m indoors, and 10,000m; British track records at 5000m, 3000m indoors and 10k on the road have all fallen to Mohamed 'Mo' Farah: the boy from Somalia who came to Britain at the age of eight, leaving behind his twin brother, and with just a few words of English, and a natural talent for running. His secondary school PE teacher Alan Watkinson spotted his potential and began easing this human gazelle towards the racetrack. In 2001 Mo showed his promise by winning the 5000m at the European Junior Championships. Soon he was smashing a string of British and European records. He began living with a group of elite Kenyan runners, following their strict regime of run, sleep, eat and rest. Mo was determined to leave no stone uncovered in his bid for distance-running glory. After a disappointing Olympics in Beijing Mo took the bold decision to relocate to Portland, Oregon to work under legendary coach Alberto Salazar. The results were emphatic as Mo took silver at the 10,000m and then raced to gold in the 5000m at the 2011 World Championships in Daegu. Even better would soon follow at London 2012. TWIN AMBITIONS is much more than an autobiography by a great Olympic champion. It's a moving human story of a man who grew up in difficult circumstances, separated from his family at an early age, who struggled to overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles and realise his dream. A Woman Alone

Books, AutoBiography

Intense personal experiences of South Africa’s brutal social system, a sense of stifled creativity and a distaste for politics made Bessie Head leave for Botswana on an exit permit at the age of 27. There, in her chosen rural ‘haven’ of Serowe, and despite a severe mental breakdown, she wrote the novels and stories that earned her international recognition as one of Africa’s most remarkabble and individual writers. A Woman Alone is a collections of autobiographical writings, sketches, and essays which covers the entire span of Bessie Head’s creative life, up to her death in 1986 at age 49. Churchill

Books, AutoBiography
KShs1,295.00 KShs1,231.00
"Winston Churchill attracted far more criticism alive than he has since his death. He was, according to Evelyn Waugh, 'always in the wrong, surrounded by crooks, a terrible father, a radio personality'. To others, he was the saviour of the nation, even of Western civilization, 'the greatest Briton' who ever lived. Whatever one's view, Winston Churchill remains splendidly unreduced. He also remains enormous fun--a cartoonist's and caricaturist's dream on the one hand, one of the most powerful and successful statesmen in modern history on the other. Globally famed for his role as a leader during the Second World War, this study resists the temptation to conflate Churchill's post-war career with Britain's demise on the international stage. Nor does it endorse the notion that Churchill became an anachronism as he lived and continued to work, at a prodigious rate, through his seventies and eighties. As well as being Britain's most celebrated politician and war leader, Winston Churchill was a Nobel Prize-winning author. He was one of the most prolific writers of his age and his accounts of the momentous events through which he lived have indelibly marked the way in which modern British history has been conceptualized. Uniquely endowed with talent, energy and determination, Winston Churchill was, as a close wartime colleague put it, 'unlike anyone you have ever met before'. Ashley Jackson describes the contours and contradictions of Churchill's remarkable life and career as a soldier, politician, historian, journalist, painter, amateur farmer and homemaker. From thrusting subaltern to high-flying politician, Cabinet outcast to elder statesman, this is the eternally fascinating story of Winston Churchill's appointment with destiny"--Publisher's description, p. Hard Choices by Hillary Rodham Clinton

Books, AutoBiography
KShs2,000.00 KShs1,890.00
Hillary Rodham Clinton’s inside account of the crises, choices, and challenges she faced during her four years as America’s 67th Secretary of State, and how those experiences drive her view of the future."All of us face hard choices in our lives,” Hillary Rodham Clinton writes at the start of this personal chronicle of years at the center of world events. "Life is about making such choices. Our choices and how we handle them shape the people we become.” In the aftermath of her 2008 presidential run, she expected to return to representing New York in the United States Senate. To her surprise, her former rival for the Democratic Party nomination, newly elected President Barack Obama, asked her to serve in his administration as Secretary of State. This memoir is the story of the four extraordinary and historic years that followed, and the hard choices that she and her colleagues confronted.Secretary Clinton and President Obama had to decide how to repair fractured alliances, wind down two wars, and address a global financial crisis. They faced a rising competitor in China, growing threats from Iran and North Korea, and revolutions across the Middle East. Along the way, they grappled with some of the toughest dilemmas of US foreign policy, especially the decision to send Americans into harm’s way, from Afghanistan to Libya to the hunt for Osama bin Laden.By the end of her tenure, Secretary Clinton had visited 112 countries, traveled nearly one million miles, and gained a truly global perspective on many of the major trends reshaping the landscape of the twenty-first century, from economic inequality to climate change to revolutions in energy, communications, and health. Drawing on conversations with numerous leaders and experts, Secretary Clinton offers her views on what it will take for the United States to compete and thrive in an interdependent world. She makes a passionate case for human rights and the full participation in society of women, youth, and LGBT people. An astute eyewitness to decades of social change, she distinguishes the trendlines from the headlines and describes the progress occurring throughout the world, day after day.
