The peaceful quiet rich life of Mzee Yoshua Lelma and his family is suddenly thrown into mourning and hopelessness after a deadly raid by bandits from a neighbouring community. The raid sparks a series of events that breed pain, revenge, betrayal, love and eventually hope as portrayed through the various characters. The author, Egara Kabaji, through his sharp literary skills, illuminates the causes and effects of cattle rustling amongst the North Western communities of Kenya. He portrays how the frequent banditry raids have hurt individuals, communities and the entire region. The author, with passion, lauds the rich Turkana culture and the unique tourist attractions in the region. He captures the social, political and economic lifestyle of the people in such a fascinating manner that one is tempted to imagine he has blood relations with the community. Kabaji gives faces and voices to the history of the Turkana community in an objective manner, which is a rare feat. He is celebrated for his exceptional gift of telling complex stories in a simple but engaging manner.

Shadows of Love by Egara Kabaji

Kenya Fiction
Rated 4.60 out of 5
KShs1,000.00 KShs650.00
Shadows of Love Sylvia Mwende dreams of love, but instead, her heart is scarred by betrayal and heartbreak. In her desperate search for love, she confronts a maze of internal conflicts in an uncaring world. In her naivety, she makes wrong choices, leading her deeper into emotional turmoil. Torn between the shadows of past pain and the hope for a better future, Mwende's journey is punctuated with missteps that complicate her already fragile life. In Shadows of Love, the author weaves a captivating love story that confronts contradictions between the heart's yearnings and the ways of the human mind. Skillfully and with surgical precision, Egara Kabaji peels layers of the ramifications of love while leading the reader to deep embers of reflection on love. Vividly, he depicts the troubled life of Sylvia Mwende, who swings between polarities of joy and pain and unexpectedly finds real love in an unlikely place. As she navigates the complexities of her heart, she discovers that while good men are indeed rare, they do exist. Yet, she also learns a harsh truth: some women can be unwittingly destructive. Tormented by family expectations, Sylvia must confront her past and embrace the possibility of a brighter future. As Sylvia Mwende grapples with the consequences of her decisions, the line between love and pain blurs, leaving her at a crossroads. Will Mwende break free from the chains of heartache, or will the shadows consume her? The Author Egara Kabaji is a professor of Literary Communication at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST). He is one of the most prolific writers of children's literature. His seminal novel, Journey to Becoming, was the second runner-up for the Jomo Kenyatta Prize for Literature in 2021. His other novel, Mourning Glory (2022), has been lauded as a masterpiece. In 2024, he was declared one of the most notable writers that Kenya has ever produced. The Pan African Writers Association (PAWA) has bestowed on him the distinguished honor of Esteemed Patron of the Arts (EPA) in Africa.

The People of Ostrich Mountain by Ndirangu Githaiga

Books, Fiction and Non Fiction, Kenya Fiction
KShs2,000.00 KShs1,500.00
Brief Summary As the 1950s Mau Mau war breaks out in the foothills of Mt. Kenya, Wambũi, a fourteen-year-old girl leaves her besieged village to join a prestigious boarding school a half day’s journey away by train. There, she becomes aware of her extraordinary mathematical abilities discovered by her teacher, Eileen Atwood. Initially, Wambũi views Eileen’s attentions with suspicion and hostility, but over time, the two grow close and form a lifelong friendship. Unfortunately for Wambũi, the mid-twentieth century isn’t ready for a female math prodigy, particularly in Kenya. But she quietly and defiantly takes on the obstacles seeking to define her, applying her unusual gifts in new directions, which ultimately benefits her impoverished family and inspires her siblings and their children to pursue their own dreams. After forty years in Kenya, Eileen unexpectedly loses her employment authorization and is forced to return to England, where she struggles to adjust to living in a country she barely recognizes. Meanwhile, Wambũi’s son, Ray, a doctor, navigates a fraught visa application process and travels to America to begin residency training; however, his hospital becomes insolvent and shuts down a year later. He and his colleagues are assimilated into other programs where, as foreign-born physicians, they endure relentless prejudice. As a black man, he also discovers that the streets of Chicago are sometimes quick to judge, with serious consequences. A saga of family and friendship spanning five decades and three continents, 'The People of Ostrich Mountain' chronicles the interconnected lives of three outsiders as they navigate the vagaries of race, gender and immigration.

Alternative Dispute Resolution in the Market place by J.G. Nyamu

Books, Fiction and Non Fiction, Kenya Fiction
KShs2,000.00 KShs1,500.00
Brief Summary The book has powerfully underpinned the need for awareness creation and the building of a new ADR culture. The author has persuasively argued that courts are firefighting backlogs, but the actual fire is out there in the wider society. The real challenge is to stem the flow of disputes into the court system. The book has been written in an easily accessible style and this makes it suitable for all readers who are not familiar with ADR including, students in schools, colleges and universities, administrators, judiciary, policy makers, corporates and practitioners of ADR among many possible users of the book.

My Life in Crime by John Kiriamiti

Books, African Interest, Fiction and Non Fiction, Kenya Fiction
Rated 5.00 out of 5
KShs1,000.00 KShs790.00
The late 1960's and early '70s may be remembered as the years of the great bank and other armed robberies in Kenya. This is the true story of one of the participants in some of those robberies, John Kiriamit. In raw and candid language, Kiramiti tells the story of how he dropped out of secondary school when he was only fifteen years old, and for a time became a novice pickpocket, before graduating into crimes like car-breaking and ultimately into violent robbery. This spell-binding story takes the reader into the underworld of crime, and it depicts graphically the criminal's struggle for survival against the forces of law.
